Found a way to capture the tone for almost 100%

And it only costs 2000$ :D

j/k

I use a shure sm57 and it's 43cm away from the amp and it looks this way:

__________
|________ | <- Amp

.............\ <- SM57

It's almost the sound I hear in the room. You have to normalize it in Cubase, Audition (whatever you use) but it's much smoother because of the distance.

Here is a file, super sloopy but the sound is much clearer. No eq-ing afterwards just a tad reverb because I forgot to put the reverb and delay on the T.C. G-major up on a higher volume.

That's my sound bros..now I have to play better :D

Perhaps it's a tad boomy and it's too far away, I'll test it later. Perhaps you guys can test it with your equiment and post it here!

Bad playing

Re: Found a way to capture the tone for almost 100%

I do the same. I actually find the best sound is when the sm57 is towards the bottom of the cone pointing slightly up. This is for live though.

Re: Found a way to capture the tone for almost 100%

Sounds great...and like a 57 allright:D
I always use those with another mic, I set the AKG 414 some two meters away, and it still picking up more than the Shure;)
Then I close mic with the shure.
Anyways it sounded really good, I really liked the recorded sound you got here!

Re: Found a way to capture the tone for almost 100%

Thank you guys!

It would be cool to check other mics out now :D GAS time, big time!

Will combine the Shure with a Audio Technica condenser mic!

Re: Found a way to capture the tone for almost 100%

The most true-to-room-sound setup I've ever heard was a Royer 122 into an Avalon 2022 - those things really love fast pre's.

That said, I generally always pick up the 57, although I position it a bit differently... about an inch from the grill cloth, right where the cone meets the dust cap.

Re: Found a way to capture the tone for almost 100%

I like that, really smooth sounding. But thats also because of your playing, I thought you played good, there was a few minor things on the sweep section but...I could never od any better and you kept up nicely!
