Re: Found an old body I sold

America was at war because it was attacked by a German ally, Japan. December 7, 1941. Japan's attack was an act of war, an act of aggression against the up-to-then neutral US of A. After the attack the USA had no choice but to participate in the war. Al qaida attacked the USA, but not Afghanistan or Iraq or Vietnam. There was no mandate to invade, nothing except paranoid fear and/or economical reasons. Normandy was retaliation.

Guys, learn your history. Your OWN national history, with the emphasize on foreign affairs.

Well, Orpheo, perhaps you need to learn a bit of European history. Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec 7, 1941. Hitler declared war on the US on Dec 8, 1941. But German U-boats were sinking American merchant marine ships bringing supplies to the UK in the late 1930s while the war was going on in Europe before official US involvement. So the US was unoffocially involved in WWII prior to Pearl Harbor and became officially involved in Europe because Hitler declared war on us.

Al-Qaeda was in Iraq. It was called "Al-Qaeda in Iraq." I think I read about in "Der Spiegel."

But the Al-Qaeda that attacked the US was doing its traning in Afghanistan. When such people commit mass murder on your soil, you hunt them down where they are. Hence the US did not declare war on Afghanistan, but went and attacked (killed and captured) the Taliban (who gave shelter to Al-Qaeda) that ruled Afghanistan and Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan, because they committed the murders.

Whether invading Iraq was justified or not is debatable.

Invading Afghanistan was completely justified. I would have made the call to do it.

We know our history just fine.

Anyway, I feel that your postings in this thread show an elitist and judgmental attitute regarding the US and stereotype all Americans as unintelligent. I think that most of the people here resent it. I feel that you are not being and have not been respectful in this thread. And I have acted accordingly.

The historical debate aside, you feel I'm being disrespectful, but the people who do so vice versa, who also tread the 'stereotypical Dutch' path, get no reply from you. Why? I'm being charged with bad behaviour, whilst I feel I didn't do anything wrong. Without aid of anyone or at least an impartial person I have to fight off that term 'orpheo'd', one I resent.

The public opinion here on the Iraq and afghan war is highly negative. Can you blame us? The invasion of an entire country because of a rogue group, powerful nevertheless, but not representative for the entire nation, is never justified. The invasion in WW2 is justified because it was a real declaration of war of one country to another, not a splinter group operating from within a country. In the first the people chose the government who attacked the USA, so those people 'deserved' to be punished/liberated. In the latter, it's a rogue splinter group, without electorate ties. That's wherein the difference lies.

So, let's circle back to ethics, the core of the matter.

Dali posted an eBay link to a guitar. He liked it, mentioned an intent to buy but wasn't explicit like in this thread. I gave him time, he didn't buy, so I did, it was a buy it now. I posted that I bought it in a haze of joy of having bought a new guitar. I'm getting thrashed and flamed for bad behaviour, cause I 'should have known' he would buy it. But he didn't despite the time he had to buy. Anyway, a term was concocted to name the action of sniping an item off eBay in front of ones nose: orpheo'd. I disagree with the implication, not the course of events, thus I disagree with the term.

So, should I let insults to my address and country and even continent go by, when vice versa is met with major resistance? No, don't think so.

Re: Found an old body I sold

we don't get to make decisions like that anyway.... (invasion of normandy, iraq, afghanistan) Elected asswipes do.

It's called a republic, the US isn't a democracy like Greece, it's a republic like Rome where the powerful just do what they want in the name of the people, and the people pretend like they're playing a role in the way things play out because they 'elected' people in hopes that they will do as they promised.

I just think it's funny when those from other countries pin the blame of bad political decisions on America, when Americans didn't play a role in making the decision to begin with. The only real mechanisms of control we have over our representatives includes- lobbying while in office (for the extremely wealthy) or voting them INTO office.(should cut the political convo !!!)
Man......I like this post alot!

Sorry, you are correct. I was unaware of this. People should not be attacking your country, ethnic group, etc because of your behavior and accusing of falling into the sterotypes of that because of once incident.

I totally agree with you and take your side in that matter.

It is completely derogatory and insulating, humiliating, and embarassing to make someone's name the "new vocabulary" that stands for a bad action.

I sympathize with you because this has been done to me, and frankly, it sucked. So I take your side in this.

Thanks for clarifying my omission and my apologies for making it.
