Found something interesting about some guitars I got..

Alright so as some of you know from recent posts, I got two guitars from my uncle. Both of which are from the early-mid 80's it seems. Well, my father got in contact with my uncle. He said that the neck from one of them, not sure which one, came from a band by the name of Dokken? He couldn't stay on long so I don't know much more then that but it seemed pretty cool to me.

Also, I've decided to completely redo the Hondo. I'll be putting in another humbucker in and adding a toggle switch. Then I've mostly decided to do a metallic black with metal flakes.

Red hondo body with warped/since discarded hondo neck :knockedou

Maybe he just meant dokken played that model for awhile.

I mean he specifically said one of his friends when he was younger know someone in dokken who gave him one or something.

Yeah, I hope there's more to tell.. I've gotten all this from my father, and he was only on the phone for like 5 mins. I haven't talked to my uncle, except through Facebook, in like 4 years..

Seriously, Mallowpuff, if you're not familiar with Dokken you should look into them. Don Dokken's a helluva player.

Yeah, I wasn't familiar with them until a few hours ago. I actually don't know why I'd never heard of them...

Saw Dokken several times during the 80's. Don't remember ever seeing Don Dokken with a guitar aside from the video. I have no idea whether he can really play or not. George Lynch is another story :wink:

Sorry it took so long to get back here. Thanks guys! I'm trying to contact him through FB right now, and my father is supposed to be calling him soon enough!

What do you guys think about putting another humbucker in the Hondo and painting it pearl black with real metal flakes? Again our neighbor owns a professional car body shop, and said he could get us the paint and some "real" automotive grade metal flakes. We've routed out the spot for another humbucker and primed in so far..


Being that it's made out of plywood, will it ever sound good? From some I've heard it barely affects the tone and others say it would make better firewood no matter what you put in it..

Lastly, how do you guys think the zebra humbuckers would look in it? I think they look awesome againsted the black it will be, and it kinda brings out the binding even more.

Dokken Rhymes With Rockin was their "slogan". I always thought the pronunciation of Dokken was pretty obvious. Maybe it wasn't to most 80's metalheads.
For the record, I wasn't much of a Dokken fan other than liking Lynch and Pilson's playing. I remember paying to see Dio and I think Dokken opened. Other than that, I worked production (or security) at the local venues for several years in the 80's. Saw loads of shows for free. Cool job.
