Framus Ruby Riot

Hey guys,

Ran across a guy with a Framus Ruby Riot I - the 2x12 celestion version that i really dig. I have no idea a) whether its a good and reliable amp (i don't really know anything about Framus) and b) how much i should pay.

Anyone have experience with Framuses that could shine light on the subject? So far i dig it.

Good, reliable yes. How much you should pay? No frickin idea. They were pretty expensive a few years back when they were easy to get a hold of, but since Framus has pretty much dropped off the map, it's hard to say. I used to have a Dragon and got rid of it for the edge of the Cobra. I've been thinking about letting it go, too, but I have no idea what to ask.

Re: Framus Ruby Riot

Well, Went back to check it out today and i just figured i'd update. It was early in the day so i could crank it up.

I guess i should start out by saying i was severely unimpressed. It is a very dark sounding amp at any kind of volume and i just couldn't get it to ever be bright. There was little note definition and it mudded up quickly. I suppose for Eastern European Hard rock it would have been good, but even the distortion channel sounded very sub-par to my ear. Thin, a little buzzy. Even though it was dark, it wasn't Bassy either. no floor rumbling lows nor clean crisp highs like i had hoped for.

I suppose i should put all of this in to context.

I make these comparisons playing the Framus next to my '98 Hot Rod Deville 410 :smack:

I guess there's a reason they fell out of glory... too bad, it really was a looker.

Weird. I seem to remember Toad the Wet Sprocket used to use those amps and they always had great tone. If you listen to "Dulcinea", it sounds anything, but dark? Maybe it's tubes or that one's just a lemon?

Sounds a lot like the reason I went to a Cobra from the Dragon, though they both pushed the hell out of some bass. The Cobra sounds more up your alley.

Weird that you say that. That's the only song i ever see referenced for tone of the framus amps, and i can't find any reference to their guitar player ever using one. He Definitely used matchless, and the BASS player was framus sponsored. Where is everyone getting that from?

Because it sure as heck didn't sound like that :D
