Re: Franken Fat strat too bright! What to do.
You got that right Majestic!!! Got a vintage tremolo in the Frankenstrat and the EVO sucked in it. I put the Evo in the Les Paul and it makes a world of difference! Am leaving it there. Last night dropped the Invader in the bridge of the strat body and, although I'm not a big Invader fan, it sounds much better. Dark pickup in bright guitar works out well.
You see pics of Vai wailing on a whammy bar on his Jem with a Evo in it and ya thing it would work on most tremolo equiped guitars. Wrong!
Thanks Majestic! Not scratching my head any more.
Majestic said:The Evolution is one of the most aggressive pickups in history, period. If the bridge is "floating", and NOT backed-up against the body then........oh boy. Forget it.
Just moving the Evolution to a stoptail Charvel without a Floyd was enough to change that pickup completely for me. Worked wonders. I was literally shocked once I took it out of my Ibeenhad. My Charvel still has a tremolo unit, but it's backed-up, locked against the body of the guitar. Bass & sustain, anyone???
Hetfield's tone may have been clear and crisp, but it wasn't thin & wimpy, like Vai's. Floating bridge = ditch the Evolution.
