Frankenstrat Gets New Pickups

Something screwed up my last post attempt. Anyway, the old Frankenstrat got a new set of pickups, Custom Custom / Alnico 2 Pro. I guess they're an early birthday present for it as it turns 30 in November based on when it was built. Still plays great. Had to ditch a couple of shoddy CTS pots I had in my stash but found one that worked. One of the bad ones happened to be a push/pull I was planning on using for a partial split on the A2P. After playing it though, I gotta say I don't think I need to do the partial split at all. I'm getting the sounds I need from it as it is. This is a great combo. I've used the CC with many other neck pickups, the CC/Jazz was the very first combo in this guitar. But, I think this is my favorite. Can do pretty much anything with it. And a few pics.

I was expecting something more....colorful.

I never think about an A2P in a Strat. How does that work?

This guitar was never colorful. I think the closest it got was having a vintage pearl pickguard on it nearly 20 years ago. This one is all about utility and is worn. The pics make it look better than it actually is. Played and loved for 30 years.

The A2P is smooth and warm yet has a nice cut without being harsh at all. I'll try and make a sound clip while I'm practicing for this week's rehearsal (new gig).

I love that combo. Most of my guitars are Strat-alikes, and this is the combo I prefer. It fills up a lot of space in a 4piece band.

That it does. While the new band I just joined is myself and another on guitar, it mixes in really well and based on my setup vs his, it's a nice separation. You can definitely tell there's two guitarists.

This guitar definitely sounds amazing with these. Like mentioned, it had a CC in it when it was first built and had it until I joined this forum and got swap happy LOL. A lot of pickups sound good in it. This set is close to the top of the list.

Yep, good combination. CustomCustom seems to work really well just about anywhere. But especially so in Strat types.

I disagree with this. I think there are places it would sound like a big muddy mushy harsh middy mess.

That said having had them in both Les Pauls and Strats, it has worked for me.
