Re: Fred Vs Mo' Joe: Help me Decide
I use a norton in my alder strat and love it...more than the fred I tried in it. They are similar pups, given that the norton uses one of the fred's coils, but the norton is hotter, thicker, bassier (but not too much), and just as knarly; although it has less of of the wah sound. The fred sounded thin in a bright, vintage style strat; but it did sound good in a darker toned strat style guitar with naturally more of it's own bass.
if your strat is bright, I think you'll find the same. I use a 500k tone pot for just the norton and it shares a 250 volume pot. I can get classic and modern rock tones out of this, as well as enter metal land.
