Free strings!

Re: Free strings!

The link goes to an http (like this Seymour Duncan site) so it is not a secure site. Good internet etiquette would be to not get out major personal info on an unsecure site (such as credit card info and etc.) Personally, it would be best to enter information for a P.O. Box rather than your home address.

Re: Free strings!

You only need a name in the age of the internet, and you can Google the address, and actually find it relatively easily no matter how much the person tries to keep it private. Not too concerned about this (yet).

It isn't like any of us gave our social security numbers out. That'd be on its own level of stupid.

Re: Free strings!

Yeah I can see the headlines: 'Idiot musician types all robbed after giving out personal addresses in hopes of getting $5 pack of guitar strings for free', lol.

If they can get past the alarm, two 100 lbs dogs and the armed home owner all without alerting the 3 cops on my street they are welcome to what ever they want.

This is very true--I've heard numerous IT guys and software developers say that if someone really wants your info then they can get it--just depends on how much time and energy they want to spend on it. Without any financial info requested on the website, my hunch is that it is a startup company that just got free advertising and a free mailing list. Who knows--please let us know if y'all get the strings! :)

I am a sales guy I am always researching prospects and companies, I can find anything on anybody. The amount of information out there on you folks is amazing. There are the typical sites where I can get your business info, bio email address - Jigsaw.com, Data.com, ZoomInfo.com, Spoke.com or LinkedIN.com. If I want to go a bit deeper and get creepier Intelius.com will list your relatives and sometimes your kids, Spokeo.com will give all of that information plus what you paid for your home along with other personal information. The big daddy (or one of them) is Salsegenie.com aka InfoUSA.com, these guys will have your age, salery, spose information, what magazines you subscribe to, investments, a tech profile of your home (internet, cellphone), year you bought your home and what year it was built. Most of them are subscription so you can't just go to the site and check out what they have on you. Spokeo.com, Peoplefinders.com and a few others will give you a peek at what they have but will not give you the entire picture without paying.

Re: Free strings!

Thought i'd update this thread. I signed up for the free strings too, and today - several weeks after this thread began - I received a set of D'Addario 'XL Formula' strings in the mail. I didnt order any so I believe this is the free set that was promised. They look great and are 10-46's. Anyone else receive a set?

You think D'Addario is doing this? Post pictures of the packaging if you can.

Here's the strings I got. Notice it says 'confidential beta sample' on the pack. For those of you that havent received yours yet I'm sure you will, I must be one of the early ones. i had forgotten about them too until I got the mail today.

Oh ad yeah, the return address is D'Addario's so I;m assuming it's their campaign.
