Snake Aces
Singlecut Slut
My life has been a journey. Society is an interesting existence.
I spent the night putting fresh strings on my number one guitar and my number one bass.
Then, I did full setups setting relief, string height, pickup height, and intonation on both.
I'm a self-taught player. I started messing with an old acoustic at my grandparent's house in the 90s.
Then, I went to see a band called the Dingees back in the late 90s. And that made me want to play bass.
Then, in 1998, my grandpa paid me to help my carpenter uncle put new siding on my grandparent's house and garage.
I used that money at a pawn shop to grab a Squier II made in Japan P-Bass and a Crate amp.
From there, my self-taught journey accelerated very quickly.
I spent the next 13 years or so playing bass and guitar in several bands. From there, I spent almost 3 years as a very devout self-teaching student on guitar exclusively in Greece. I even played a few shows as a solo artist.
Things didn't work out with my ex in Greece. I spent a few years sad to play the guitar, partially blaming my guitar obsession for the breakup.
So, for the past decade, I have been a very lazy player, forgetting most of what I knew and worked so hard to achieve.
For reasons I won't discuss here, the urge to write new music is back and stronger than ever.
So, I signed up for guitar and bass lessons for the first time in my life. I begin on Tuesday!
I feel like I'm going back to school! I'm excited as hell!
But I'm taking this very seriously. I grew up in Minneapolis, where musicians are everywhere. Now? I live in the sticks (which I love), and I've never met another musician in my small town of 800 people. I don't get out much.
So, meeting my teacher on Tuesday will be the first musician I've interacted with (in person) in almost 9 years.
It's never too late. You're never too old to chase your dreams... til you can't. I am stoked to see what the next chapter of my music ambition brings!
