fret buzzing

charvel model 2

New member
My charvel has started string buzzing at the second fret g string, d string and at the 7th fret g string. it has a double locking floyd rose on it. any ideas on how to stop this buzzing, it's getting to the point that the strings at those pos are almost totally dead sounding. any suggestions would be great.

Re: fret buzzing

there is so much going on that your best bet is to take it to a tech... at leats let him see it in person and give ya his quote on the fix....

it could be many things... besides natural wear and tear on the frets and needing a fret dress to level them out again and or a good set up, it could be the neck moving from the weather change and humidity levels.... some of my 10 year old guitars this winter have fret ends sticking out that have never done that before in many many many years... wood does move...

a temp fix could be raising the string action a little by turning the 2 floyd pivot posts higher slightly...

Re: fret buzzing

Bridge height, high/low frets, weather/humidity/temp changes, neck bow/relief ... all kinds of things could be there. If you play in "boxes" and prefer certain ones, you can wear frets in certain areas and create buzzing over time too. Blues players who really dig in, generally wear out specific parts of necks pretty bad. SRV needed a fretjob a month at least.
