Fretboard: Maple, Ebony, or rosewood?

Re: Fretboard: Maple, Ebony, or rosewood?

Or you could get my friend and local builder Frank Verrilli to build you a Duotone neck made of half Maple and Half Rosewood:

It's be cooler if he did the whole half of the neck with rosewood, headstock and all.

At the beginning of the month I ordered a neck from Warmoth for my jazz bass. The neck and fretboard are both bloodwood so I'll be interested to hear how it sounds as well as the feel of the wood.

The beauty of small luthiers and custom shops is that you can get almost any wood and design you can imagine for your instrument.

That is a very cool idea!

Re: Fretboard: Maple, Ebony, or rosewood?

Ebony is the crisper drawer of the guitar world for me. I like the sharpness and the feel of it while playing. After that, maple on maple. I don't like the feel of rosewood at all. Sounds great, I just really don't like how it feels under my fingers, and is a dealbreaker in 99% of cases.

I can't use chalkboards, either. Just something about how it feels is lecherous to me. Everybody has their quirks - I'm a weirdo like that, I guess.

Beautiful work, if pointless.

Well, I've played on one of his Duotone necks and it sounds extremely balanced–snappy and bright on the bass notes and the leads are not overly bright...some might deem it pointless but I think in addition to looking cool/unique it does serve a purpose.

I don't subscribe to the notion that a one or zero piece fingerboard is disadvantageous, hence my post.

No hate but it's a three titted babe.

I personally love ebony for the look, it makes your guitar looks elegant
