I have a mineral oi/ / lemon oil combination product that darkens the wood. Anyone know of a protectant that lets the wood keep its natural light color?

maybe the light color is due to draught? (i.e. not natural)?

+1. Most rosewood I'm familiar with has a natural darker color. Drying out lightens the appearance.

I prefer lemon oil, as long as it's true lemon oil and not a lemon/mineral oil mix. The real stuff is a bit harder to find.

In a pinch, I'll even go for extra virgin olive oil. It is a natural product, and the lighter varieties have a milder scent (not as "olive-y", if you will).

Big ask there - a product that defies the nature of the world.

I have one bass that I would like to darken the rosewood on a bit. It's right back after a couple days after oil treatment.

Get a maple fretboard :)

The oil, unless it contains stain, is not coloring the wood. It is just keeping it from drying out.

+1 this! Lemon oil is great for Rosewood boards.

Rosewood is a darker wood and while some boards are lighter than others the wood is darker than most. When you are oiling the board you are not staining the wood but hydrating it (kinda like putting lotion on dry skin.)

Indian Rosewood is generally lighter than most other types, especially on low-end imports, so maybe that's what he's working with?

And it is the natural property of most woods to darken when hydrated, so no, there's no such oil. Unless you want snake oil.
