EVH Is selling TONS of gear: EVH designed/branded guitars, amps, pickups, etc: http://www.evhgear.com/gear/

EVH pickups - Frankenstein and Wolfgang models: http://www.evhgear.com/gear/accessories/

I'm not talking old products here.......these things have been about for at least a decade. They do their own thing too.....they have essentially passed beyond 'lets sound like EVH with this new gizmo'
I'm talking an aftermarket 'accessory' company making yet another part/pickup supposedly giving you the same thing that existing products in their own lineupare already supposed to do.

Vivian Campbell. I don't know if it was ever marketed as a signature humbucker, but his involvement with the development of it is well known. I'm guessing that it was introduced on the market as the bridge pickup in the Nightswan in 1987.

Our friend Darth Phineas mentions the story here:
http://darthphineas.com/2018/01/seymour-duncan-full-shred/

Viv even made a brief mention of it in an interview on the SD webpage:
https://www.seymourduncan.com/blog/backstage-pass/talking-shredders-leppards-and-slang-with-vivian-campbell

Yep. Viv to the max. IIRC, Nancy Wilson from Heart was an early proponent of that pickup as well.

What guitarist used the Full Shred?

Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth use to use them for most of the early stuff. I haven't followed them much post 2008 so not sure what he has used since then.

Are there any big(ish)-name modem players that don't have signature pickups yet?

Bareknuckle, Railhammer, and Fishman seem to be popular with artists these days, I hope Seymour Duncan don't get overlooked by younger players.

Well, thing is, artists still sell pickups. Get a legendary artist involved, and things sell. Marketing is a lot easier.

I can see that. I have just hard time figuring out who it's aimed at. If someone wants EVH pickup, why the new one instead of custom? Or Red Devil instead PG?

Or maybe I misunderstood and these products are supposed to be something new simply designed in collaboration with said artist, instead of reiteration of their classic tones?

With regards to Eddie, he is both a guitar legend and he has created both a series of instruments and amps that have become famous for getting things right; the new 5150 is probably the most popular high-gain amp around these days. I'm not psyched about there being too many Eddie products, but this is going to sell by the bucketloads.

Also, there's a new Billy Gibbons pickup called the Red Devil.

Let's not forget about this part fellas, this is what really interests me.

I don't know, as I haven't seen the marketing for either. But I'd think that with artists with very long careers, you can focus on different eras.

At a bucksixty a pop, think i'll pass. How many times can a company revisit some artist's signature? It makes ZERO sense to me. Whatever turns you on I guess

Re: From MJ: "Soon, yes, we'll be making more Eddie pickups here in the Custom Shop"

Why? Wasnt the PG based on Billie's blah blah blah? So what has changed? I love buying pickups, but a new pickup based on a decades old sound thats already been done? 10 years it will be the Red Pearly Devil Gate? I see no logic. So did they not get it right the 1st time? Whatever floats ur boat

I just got to thinking, if this set has a hotter wound neck than bridge pickup, these things will actually be pretty sweet.

Re: From MJ: "Soon, yes, we'll be making more Eddie pickups here in the Custom Shop"

From what I remember, the PG was never marketed as an artist pickup. I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. But hey, look how many guitars and amps that are attached to EVH....

Thats cool Chis. I just meant for me, not for others. I dont judge what other people want or like, if it makes you happy and dont hurt anybody, I have nothing against it

You mean Billy never got paid for the endorsement? Yet, the connotation is there tho. Just like the WLH, thats Jimmy's PUP.

Artists' taste can change, and you can have over one "signature" sound- look at Lynch's equipment choices.

I take it the pickup MJ wound for James Hetfield back in the day was based on the Invader?

I'd think that unless the artist specifically appears on the packaging, promotion and name of a product, then consider it either an unofficial endorsement, or 'in the style of' that particular artist.

Well, I think Lynch's tone is a shadow of what it was as an example. If a guy (gal) wants to sound like Lynch, isnt implied you want to sound like his glory days and not what he happens to be into now?

Well, I guess that is where the ad copy comes in. It will tell you what you are buying.
