From What Little I've Heard So Far? Vox Head Groovy!

I just got the head tonight and I Like the tones I've heard so far through my Cyber Twin's Celestion 2x12s...I couldn't crank the Vox up to good tonight,but I Liked how quick and easy it was to dial up some good guitar tones even at lower volumes..The amp also seems to respond nicely overall and not in a harsh ss kind of way(very cool).

I dialed in a very convincing Blackfaced Clean tone using the open back 2x12 cabinet of the Cyber Twin...This tone is locked pretty firmly in my head from playing through BF Fenders for many years and dialing up what I felt was a very usable tone was fast and intuitive...This amp is very easy to learn on pretty quick compared to my Cyber twin which is a much deeper programable combo amp..

For the price I payed for this amp,I Must say I'm pretty happy with it already...I know it'll be alot better once I can pump some serious air through my speakers..All of my listening was with the amp set to the 15 watt setting and yet the amp still had plenty of volume and lows,but while retaining the basic overall tweaking settings I dialed in at both the 15 watt and the 60 watt per channel settings...

Some of the Vox tones I heard also sounded pretty doable and that's one of the main reasons for checking this amp out...I'll see about dialing in some Marshall type tones,but so far,those tones are a bit fake sounding? Maybe I really need to crank things up though?

Anyway...So far,so good all...I Like it so far..If I can plug into any amp and find some tone that I Like pretty quickly,then this is a great sign of a decent amp...I've not scratched the surface with the effects,but I do know that I'd never use this amp's TS9 settings,as they are too "bassless"..The autowah was pretty cool and the delays aren't great,but good enough...I don't use alot of time based effects as a rule anyway other than reverb...

It'll be interesting to see how you like it once you get a chance to really "air it out".

But still, sounds like its a "keeper".

I Like it,but now I'm going to have to buy either the VC4 or the VC12 foot controller! :smack:

Here's the new Vox head sitting on top of my other wonderful amp(My Fender Cyber Twin 2x12 amp...Below that with the cover over it,is my BF 66 Pro Reverb 2x12 amp...

After playing with the Vox amp, please do me a favor and review it with the Cyber Twin, it'd be interesting to see what the pros/cons of each are

There are already things I Like better about the Vox...I'm on my way out to get the F/C for the Vox,but I'll report later...I've listened to and have created some cool presets already...I like this amp alot and it sounds great through the deeper CT cab with Celestion 2x12s....I haven't plugged it into my Marshall V30 4X12 yet,but I'll bet that would rock..I prefer the open back cab for the clean stuff though..

If you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost you?

And you say that it has the ability to choose the wattage? Is there some kind of switch to choose between them?

There is a really handy switch on the back for the power settings. It varies how much the little baby power tube is driven.

For the most part, you can get a new 60 watt head for about 425-450 new. Used, less of course.

One of the things that bugs me about the Vox and the Line 6 modelling stuff is that you have to pay quite a lot extra to get the foot controller. I'd guess that any gigging guitarist who buys one of the amps is gonna want the foot controller. They should include it, even if it does push the price up a bit. Do you get any kind of footswitch when you buy the amp?

I bought the 120 watt head version for $600 and all I needed was the less expensive VC-4 Foot Controller since I use an external volume pedal and my own modded wahs..The VC-4 was $179...You almost need to have the F/C to get everything you need out of the amp..I only see myself having a max of 2 banks x about 4 presets in each bank. This will give me about 8 presets I need to cover everything our band does from clean to mean and in between...

The Cyber Twin does come with a 4 position or 4 preset footswitch,but the Vox doesn't..

My Pro Reverb is a phenomenal amp,but unless I use a bunch of pedals,isn't as versatile..I use all of my amps,but I Like the versatility of the Cyber Twin and what this Vox will do...I also like to own alot of cool gear so my ears don't become bored with tone.. :13:
