FS- 1971 LP Deluxe

The Golden Boy

Fleecy Sweaterologist
Everyone always says it- and I mean it, I hate to have to sell this but...

This is a renecked 1971 Deluxe.

normal_toprear.JPG

It's had issues in it's past. It's been with me since around 1994. When I got it,the neck was in 3 pieces plus the headstock and the top had been sanded. I contacted Gibson and they referred me to another shop to put a new neck on. That shop put a BIG FAT OL' NECK on it. I put the guitar together over the course of a few years had it refinished. I used it a lot. A few years ago I had the neck shaved down to a more playable shape and the electronics replaced by Ian Anderson of Lentz's shop. Right now it's got a Schaller bridge, GraphTech saddles (I'll include the Schaller saddles), Grovers, SD Custom P-90s, and a 70s Gibson TP. The case is original as far as I'm aware- as I've tracked ownership of the guitar back to the mid-80s, because of the case.

Even if you're not intending on buying- ask questions, as this guitar has a really interesting story behind it. It's not a collector's piece, but it's a kickass rock and roll guitar- and it's more solid than ANY other LP.

I don't sell gear- so please bear with me. I'd like to ask $1200, but feel free to make an offer. If you think I'm on crack for that asking price- make an offer- I have no point of reference for a renecked Deluxe. I'll take pics of anything you'd like pics taken of. PM me for phone # or anything you don't feel like putting in a reply.

Cons-
It's renecked and refinned
It's not "clean"
There's a non-structural split in the top

Pros-
It's a '71 Deluxe
It screams
It was shaped by Ian :p

Here's some pics I snapped this morning: ask for others-

There's a small amount of flame in the center piece of the top

Just how fat is that neck? From L to R 1959 LP Special, 1971 LP Deluxe, 2001 R8.

You'll never have to worry about a headstock break...

This is a guitar you don't have to be afraid of playing. You don't have to be afraid of taking this guitar to "a smokey bar." You don't have to worry about bumping into a mic stand or anything short of a .50 cal bullet penetrating this guitar. It's solid.

Here's an old pic of the neck cavity:

Ask questions or just laugh at me.

Thanks guys.

Dang....I wish you'da caught me a month ago.:smack:

Did it originally have minis?

There's a nice 70 Deluxe at my local shop...same color. It's got a badass bridge on it, and it's got some battle scars for sure. Small 60s type (original mahogany) neck..which I personally did not care for...going for $200 more than yours. Frets are about 75%.

yours would be perfect once I dropped in some minis or P90 SuperDs :sigh:

Good luck with the sale, bro!

SOMEBODY BUY THIS THING! You see how much maple neck norlin deluxes are going for on ebay these days???? This is a steal with a big R8 type mahogany neck.

Re: FS- 1971 LP Deluxe

Hey Jeff- If I had known you were looking a month ago...:smack:

Yeah, it originally had mini-hums. I'd known of this guitar since 91- in fact, the guy who had it was parting it out and I bought the case- a few years later it ended up in the hands of a buddy who gave it to me as long as I'd fix it up.

It used to be a Goldtop, as you can see in the neck cavity- the second picture is more indicative of the color than the first.

Gimme some ideas for pics to take!!

Re: FS- 1971 LP Deluxe

That is nice... I too would've been REALLY interested a couple of weeks ago...

It think it's just killer looking man.

Best of luck!

Re: FS- 1971 LP Deluxe

I've been dinking around the idea of selling it- and I've been putting it off for quite some time- ask TGWIF... If only...:grumble:

Re: FS- 1971 LP Deluxe

Didn' t notice the refin..in the pic of the cavity it just looks like the yellow from the burst...at least on this monitor.

The local deluxe is a deep cherry sunburst...not like most norlin clownburs's you see.... the edges are almost plum colored..yours looks similar in these pics. I think a plaintop CSB of any type has become my absolute fave finish on a Paula over the years.

I'd take a side pic...someone is gonna ask if it's a pancake...that and maybe the control cavity.

Good luck..I'd sure as hell like to have it...but cannot swing it now...moving into a new place.:yell:

Re: FS- 1971 LP Deluxe

That's sweet, bro. The fact that it hasn't been routed for regular humbuckers makes it worth what you're asking IMO. Too many Deluxes from back then got butchered. Good luck with the sale.

Re: FS- 1971 LP Deluxe

a guitar like this would make a great player.... some vintage snubs want the whole thing to be 100% period correct... but basicly what you have is a hand made LP out of various parts.... pretty cool

What is the neck? was it a replacement from Gibson? Or was the headstock face somehow saved and added onto a new neck? what is the store there?

The neck is a Gibson neck- it was made to be big. At that time Gibson wasn't doing that kind of repair work- they had a shop in Nashville contracted out to do that kind of stuff. When I had the work done, I had to send the original headstock with the body so they would put a Gibson neck on it- they also put the original s/n on it. It's a whole new headstock- including the face. The LP logo isn't a screen it's a decal that had to be added during finishing.

Re: FS- 1971 LP Deluxe

That is damn sexy, and I am not a fan of plaintops, or cherry type sunbursts. Damn sexy.

Re: FS- 1971 LP Deluxe

Wow. That's got some vibe. Somebody buy this thing before I do something dumb and spend all my money.

Re: FS- 1971 LP Deluxe

I took a couple of pics this morning. I've been thinking about taking guitars over to the sign for a while...
