Hey guys,
I started making custom audio cables for a good friend of mine (who is a pro audio dealer). I figured this would be a good place to showcase some of my work.
At this point, I've done various mic cables (XLR male and female connectors, RCA connectors). I use what I believe is some of the best stuff out there. Higher end Neutrik gold plated ends (to combat oxidation), low capacitance Belden 1800F (the only brand ATC will use with their monitors), vintage Alpha solder and a jacketing that looks unlike anything else on the market (and is sure to get the attention of anyone who sees it).
Lots of folks spend lots of money on expensive gear and leave out the cables. The cables are often the weakest link. I re-did everything with Belden after hearing the difference through some SCM 100ASLs ($15,000 monitors) and the difference just isn't subtle. You don't need expensive monitors to hear the difference though, I heard the difference clearly through my budget Yamaha monitors and I think good cables can improve any setup.
Here's a 15' male XLR to female XLR fully assembled and ready to go (the fanciest one I make with not one, but two jackets). My friend Pat calls it the "Elvis cable"
:
Pretty cool look, huh? It picks up the light like crazy throughout the cable. The aesthetic scheme is gold and black throughout (even down to the connectors).
Interested in some custom stuff? Shoot me a PM and I'll get back to you a.s.a.p. They're certainly not inexpensive (they aren't cheap to make and I do need to make some kind of profit to make them worthwhile), but I think most folks will agree the quality is there at the end of the day to justify it. For those that want something a little more subtle, I've made cables without the net jacketing and if folks prefer, I can make them with nickel connectors instead of gold (gold just looks more professional IMHO).
