Looks like a '90-'91 RG770.

What does it say on the back of the headstock?

Where are you located?

Re: FS/FT: Ibanez guitar w/Floyd Rose - trade for PA system

Only thing on the back of the headstock is the serial: F933663

I am located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Zip 49783

'89 RG770

If the neck does not have the usual stress crack, $250 is a great deal.

That's a 1989 RG770...I guarantee it.

Re: FS/FT: Ibanez guitar w/Floyd Rose - trade for PA system

But they were introduced in 1990?

Also I just noticed the middle pup is a C3. That's from '91-'93. So it's gotta be a '91.

Yes, the RG770 was formally introduced in the U.S. catalogs in 1990. And, yes, they did go to direct-mount pickups for 1992 models.

However, you can't base all of your model information solely on Ibanez catalogs. It was typical for models to show up many months before the official catalogs were released and if I had a nickle for every time I had my hand on a mid-'80s to early-'90s Ibanez that had a hardware/color combo that wasn't listed in a catalog...I'd have at least a dollar or two ;)

I'm thinking his a "1990 model" with a 1989 production date. The C3 was first put into a catalog in 1991, I believe, but, again, that doesn't mean much.

Correct, it is a six digit serial number. I skimmed over it the first time.

Also, the plate is Bensalem, and those were whatever they felt like doing. Plenty of guitars coming out of H&S that were never in a catalog.

Re: FS/FT: Ibanez guitar w/Floyd Rose - trade for PA system

If everything on the guitar (aside from the neck pickup) is original, then that guitar was manufactured in late 1989.

However, nothing adds up perfectly with that guitar, a phenomenon that is actually more common of 1987-1993 Ibanez models than most people seem to understand.

The only other possibility is that you have a 1991 body with a 1989 neck. It was common for the original Wizard necks to develop cracks at the area on the back where the two mounting bolts go through for the locking nut. Many necks have been replaced on early RGs over the years because of this.

So we're not really sure what year this guitar is?

I'm considering trying to sell it for more, perhaps on ebay... If I can get more for it, I would have more for the PA system.

Re: FS/FT: Ibanez guitar w/Floyd Rose - trade for PA system

Well, it's either a 1989 or a 1991 with an '89 neck, so you can put that in your auction description ;)

Re: FS/FT: Ibanez guitar w/Floyd Rose - trade for PA system

Huh, interesting! Might the neck pocket reveal what's up?

Re: FS/FT: Ibanez guitar w/Floyd Rose - trade for PA system

What exactly is the neck pocket? I'll take a look if it means i can find out what it is.

Re: FS/FT: Ibanez guitar w/Floyd Rose - trade for PA system

Might be worth a look. Sometimes the actual neck is marked/stamped at the heel, as well. Never really know what you'll find there...

You'll have to take the strings off and unbolt the neck from the body. The area where the neck and body woods meet is the "heel" area we're referring to. It is common to have stampings, pencil markings, etc. in these areas on different guitars.
