Re: Fugly Bucker - Come and Get it
Of course it is.
Like everything MJ touches. :notworthy
MJ made these. It's magic!

I'd have to pull the tape to see how the bar bobbin is attached, but I suspect it's just hot glued on.
I'm hoping to get these installed by this weekend, if I can.
One thing I noticed, and it's only because I'd forgotten that these were Trembuckers and the 24-fret Agile I bought specifically to test these in is Gibson spaced. Doh.
The bobbins aren't lined up along the center, but along the left edge. (see pic)
Just curiosity on my part, but I'm hoping someone from the Custom Shop can provide an explanation if it was deliberate or if this was just a production decision.
Understandable, given the the Frankensteinian conception process.
Looking at this thing just reminds me of the Robot Chicken intro... IT LIVES!!!
lol
Totally cool.

That is strange and I see what you are talking about in blakejcan's post where he has a picture of the bobbins. It only looks like the off-center one is the one in the foreground which I assume is the neck model? The one pictures in the background looks like it is centered evenly. Scott Olsen's pic in the first post on page one looks like it is centered evenly as well. Maybe a few off-center Fuglybuckers made it through. Makes it more appropriate for it's namesake I would think. I"m usually OCD about things like this, but if I get a ugly duck off center one I will probably cherish it even more. We shall see.
Thanks Scott.I'll ask Derek when I see him - that original picture was the first prototype and there was quite a few tests and tweaks after that.
I am building a les paul around it. completely idiotic of course, but still... what do you guys think of this set in a les paul with a flamed spalted koa top on a singlepiece lightweight mahogany and an indian RW neck shaft with an ebony board?

I am experiencing a major case if deja vu. Someone said almost the exact same thing to me last night on facebook. But he aint italian! Nor named pepe. So I wonder. Why do you think its bright? Mahogany and rosewood are considered warm and koa is like mahogany.Looks like a blend of bright-ish tonewoods... if the Fuglybucker set is a smooth as I think it is, it should be an excellent match to the chosen tonewoods.
If not, there should be a tone control somewhere ln the guitar... I think?
Just pulling your leg, orpheo.![]()

But I am sure it will sound good. Have a koa/mahogany/purpleheart/ebony lp with a distortion/fullshred hybrid in both positions and that combination is not really overly trebly.
I received my pickups yesterday and they are closer to the picture on the right. I think you got a one-off or something MojoMonster.
Ok, cool. I was just wondering.PS- My pickup is aligned evenly.
The guitar won't be bright. I have a singlecut PRS with a mahogany body/maple top, full rosewood neck and an ebony board. The ebony definitely increases attack and percussiveness, but the overall tonality is big, full and warm; although clear! Those are great tonewoods Orpheo; should be a really cool build! I will say this: I own 3 rosewood necked guitars and tonally they are pretty different than your standard 'hog or maple necked versions. Just keep in mind that the low to low-mid emphasis you get from a full rosewood neck also changes optimal pickup choice (for ME anyway!).
