Finally traded in my change jar, couple Xmas's and bdays worth of gift cards and got this new 000X1AE Martin! Yes, it's basically all funky synthetics except for the top and super bare bones but man, it sounds and plays great. I really love it. I can't pull out my HD28 to play all the time cause I got a baby and I keep that in it's case, in the closet but this new guy will be hanging out in the living room and I'm stoked it's HPL cause it's going to be so hard to ding!

I actually really like the look too. Not up close.......but from far away, thing looks great!

Re: Fun NGD

love it
the top will darken a bit over time
or at least mine did

the triple O body is so comfortable to me

I like the projection of the big bodies but when
playing around the house
those "parlor size" axes are the ticket

beautiful axe

Really nice guitar & congrats on your purchase.;) How much did this guitar set you back financially?

Re: Fun NGD

I love it. Martin 000s are where it's at.

That one has the handsome classic look, too. I was having a hard time finding one that wasn't weird colors or something. Until now - checking this one out myself now!

It was $498. But with my gift cards, a $25 off coupon and my jar-o-change I emptied out once it was all said & done with taxes it was only $190 cashola.

Re: Fun NGD

I've often wondered what the full size HPL/solid top Martins are like; are the bridge and fingerboard dyed to look like ebony? I have an LX1 (the top has gone a caramel colour over the last 5 years) and it sounds good for a small guitar.

Ah, don't put the HD28 in a case and closet! Have it in front of your amp/sound system speakers so the top gets a workout even when you're not playing.

I'd love to but I live in a tiny house and the room with my guitar stuff is the same as my baby room. Leaving out the superfancy Martin would be asking for it to get kicked.

On the HPL Martin I got it's not real wood for the fingerboard & bridge. It's Black Richlite which is hard as rocks and takes a bit of getting used to but man, I kinda like it and it feels like you could smash the neck through a watermelon like some weird version of Gallagher and it'd be just fine.

Re: Fun NGD

^^ Looks like they changed the spec. Mine has a morado fingerboard and bridge, which is a type of rosewood.

Re: Fun NGD

Update--Changed out the strings it came with for some fancy Daddarios that I'd never used before (usually go with Martin Phosphor Bronze) and holy crapola did this thing get LOUD and it got quite a bit brighter as well which is great cause that was the only place it was lacking before. It's definitely still not the most "woody" tone but it sure sounds good.

Congrats!! we tend to be gear snobs on most online forums, so dont let anyone rain on your party. These guitars sound and play great, to enjoy it! Martin doesnt make garbage. Besides, as woods continue to diminish, we will be seeing more and more alternative solutions. Enjoy it!!

Congrats!

Sounds like a perfect "around the house" and couch guitar! Awesome to not have to baby it, worrying about humidity changes and keeping it in the case w/ humidifier. Keep it on the stand ready to strum! :)
