Fuzz Face: What is it?

Hello Hello--
Hi Lew! Are you using mostly Fenders [with single coil pickups] with the FF? I've had to put a lower value input cap. for use with humbuckers [way to "woofy"] Oops, I just noticed your list of guitars......yep, mostly Fenders!
If you ever get a chance to try a good Vox [or Sola Sound] Tonebender [with good germanium transistors] do so! I've found them much more useable in a band setting [playing LOUD] then the FF. Actually, the Mayer Axis circuit is really good, too. Everything Hendrix did in the '69 - '70 era [Band of Gypsies, etc....] is the Axis.
Don't get me wrong...the Fuller pedal sounds good, it's just that alot of people were doing those mods way before he was!
Brian.

I do play mostly Fenders. I love soloing with a humbucker but they're just not clean enough for me when I play rythym. And, as you know, about 95% of the guitar playing on most songs is the rythym! :) I had a real Vox Tonebender back in the 60's...it was OK. A good fuzzy tone! Lew

Thanks John...

On an unrelated note: the latest mods you did to my #2 Vox 847 Wah Wah are sounding AWESOME! The only drawback to making everything adjustable is that it takes some fiddling...well worth the trouble if you're a fiddler by nature, like you and I. But my buddy AJ prefers my #1 Vox 847 Wah Wah because he thinks the non-adjustable version is set right where it should be anyway. I like being able to back it off a little when I want to...

Lew

I agree Lew....Sometimes things can be "too" tweakable and that's not always a good thing either....Basically you're just changing how the wah sweeps with that Q pot...Once you find a setting you really like, you can disconnect 1 wire from the pot and measure the resistance and sub in the resistor value in place of the pot....Only if you find the extra pot is too much of a pain? I Like the 100k setting myself,as I feel it's more accented and vowel like..The lowest CC W setting is 33k like in your Fulltone wah.....Keep messing with your #2 wah until you dial it in....It's pretty much the same wah as your first one as far as component values etc...

Right now your Q pot is connected to the inductor..You won't be able to read the correct pot values unless you disconnect from the inductor either on the board or at the pot...Measure the resistance,dc the board wires and solder in the value you like...Anywhere from 68k to 100k is my favorite...

Isn't a "fuzz face" something that happens when you don't shave for a week or so? Or is that "fuzzy face"? LOL

dont forget that duane allman also used a fuzz face (must have been an early as hell one). in fact, it can be heard on the studio recording of whipping post.
