G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

It's 1:00 AM and have nothing better to do so bear with me :D

Ok, about a week or so I swapped a mystery pickup that was in my Cort (after-market before I got it) for a Duncan Distortion (in zebra).
I like the DD better in definition and clarity (and output) but I kinda preferred the EQ the old one had so, any info would be good...

It is 2-conductor, the pole pieces all have rings on them, it has a brass base (I think, it's gold anyway) has a GB in a circle for a logo and reads:
G & B
pick up co
.

I was told it was taken from a "USA Schecter" (yeah, right) but the person that put the Duncan Distortion casually referred to it as an Epiphone
(the sentence he used was "The DD has a load more clarity than the Epiphone").
I hadn't told him where it had come from...

So, any ideas or was it in fact from an Epiphone or sth?

anyone?

I simple they came stock in "that" guitar would be adequate I would think...
Hasn't anyone swapped the stockers from their Epiphones and/or Schecters?

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

from what i gather g&b is a korean company and cort, ibanez and washburn all use them in some of their guitars.

other than that i know nothing

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

Well, no matter how strange it sounds I KNOW it's not the pickup that came stock with my Cort.

My Cort (as most without duncans) came with Mighty Mite pickups and I've seen the stockers, this has completely different pole pieces, not to mention, sound...

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

The fact that "pick up" is two words hints at Asian. Unless, of course, they collect trash also. :D

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

:D Yeah, I figured as much, still, if it were an SD-quality pickup with that character I'd love it. Tone wise it fit that guitar like a glove, if only it didn't also have that cheap muddy/hollow/undefined character cheap pus suffer from...

That's why I want to find a way to either find a pickup that has its' good elements and none of the bad or maybe order one like it...

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

Nice logo! But I doubt the logo imparts any positive qualities.

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

is the same pick up that come with every PRS SE...they're quite good...i've on my PRS Santana SEII and have good output...extremely good balance and are "easy" on hear...good all around pick ups.
Mine are 9k for neck and 10k for bridge

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

I have one of the humbuckers. It is 4-conductor and nickel/silver or chrome cover. I have had a lot of humbuckers; from Duncan to DiMarzio, and others. This ranks up there with them. IMHO.....

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

I used to have one, IIRC it came in my old Hamer but I dont think it was stock. Who knows though.
It sounded alright.

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

G&B p'ups are one of the biggest OEM p'up makers in Korea.

Their high level series are quite good and made with good components.

I took one off one Cort guitar some time ago and put an UOA5 in it, replacing a T-Top in the bridge of a '73 LPC, sounding a lot better than the one it used to be there, which went in the neck position of some Custom luthier made guitar, together with a 36th ann. bridge... which I thought it wasn't bad at all, at least in that particular instrument.

HTH,

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

Also in Korean Parkers, apparently... have one that's Parker-branded on the front, G&B on the back, measures afaik around 16k. What does that make it, a JB Clone? Anyone know if it's mostly worthy or pure crap? Never heard it installed, just got it as a bonus in a trade where I cleaned out all of a guy's spare pickups... Would it be better, worse, or on equal footing with Duncan Designed's from a Korean Schecter?

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

It's just part of the Korean OEM scene, used in a lot of different places. They have all different types and quality levels. So you can't judge any by another. It's a case by case basis, but the BEST you could expect out of them is still stock OEM quality. Sometimes you get lucky.

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

Yep, standard Korean pickups found in PRS "SE" models, many newer ESP "LTD" models, cheaper Schecters, etc. They make everything from crappy "EMG Select" knock-offs to decent Alnico-equipped humbuckers. Generally good quality, but, as Frank said, it all depends on what the OEM is willing to pay for.

I will say that I've had a couple that blew me away and got great tone in a couple troublesome guitars.

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

The only one I've messed with is a Washburn "Headhunter", it's got a snarly SuperD type sound. Not bad, definitely useable, but not earth shattering. It's sealed up like an EMG. I put it in my kid's Epi.

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

My DBZ Bolero had two of them stock. Replaced both of them. They were a little muddy. I hated the bridge humbucker, but the neck was a good one. Very similar sounding to an Alnico II Pro overdriven (the creamy sound), but kind of different.

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

G&B is not only one of the biggest companies in Korea, but in Indonesia as well. They have a factory in Jakarta.

Re: G & B pick up co? Ever heard of it?

Interestingly enough... I have an MTD Kingston Heir bass.. I am in the process of modding the preamp in it with an Audere 4 band ProZ.. I just took the old pre out.. the stock one that came with it..and I found this ..

.. which was what led me here in the first place.
