G-Force Blows 2.0, Help Choose Some New Tuners....

Alright so the G-Force system on my 2015 Gibson L.P. SPECIAL is coming off!!! I guess maybe if I was constantly changing my tunings around or played a lot of slide it would make sense but I spend 95% of the time in standard 440 tuning & the other 5% in drop D so all its doing now is making for a very unstable tuning platform.

I love the look of the vintage style Kluson's & all their look-a-like cousins but they are known for having stability issues as well & the last thing I want to do is go from one bad set of tuners to another! I was a big fan of plain old Grover's for a long time but they've kinda gone downhill since they moved to China. That said the Gibson Modern's are pretty nice even if they are just rebranded Grover's?

I don't necessarily need locking tuners but the more I look into them the more I learn that way. I can get a nice set of Schaller or Sperzel locking tuners relatively cheap & I think they'd do the trick but I do have some concerns about having to ream out the existing holes. I know that whatever I decide to use will require at least one set screw or hole for a pin but that's about as far as I'd like to go with them.

If anyone can suggest something very stable that would fit in the existing holes and require minimal drilling please do!!! It is a Special so if at all possible I'd like to try and keep the vintage keys but I also want something that has a more modern housing and at least a 16-1 gear ratio....

I was literally just looking at a set of those. They look pretty great & the price isn't too bad either!!!

The 506 were a drop in replacement for the Martin branded tuners on my 000ce1
I like them

Grover 502 locking tuners are what my Les Paul Sprint Run came with before I puta used set of Gforce tuners on mine- all you need to do is drill a small hole for each tuner, but it fits into the existing tuning hole posts

Gotoh or Schaller. Since Grover moved production to China their quality has been a real crap-shoot. Sometimes they're fine, others they have issues or don't last.

Did you call Gibson to get the Titanium Zero nut to replace the brass one? Free replacement.
I would start there. The brass one is notorious for being soft and getting grooves in it. Causing tuning issues.

Yeah, I called Gibson before the guitar even arrived. Brass Zero Nut, silly Gibson....

There's a calibration you need to do if you change string gauges or even string brand. Try doing that. Between that, and putting a little nut sauce on the grooves of the nut I have no problems

Checkout the hipshot locking tuners. Very good quality, and they come with little brackets that keep them in line without having to drill screw holes. They really are great tuners.
