G&L ASAT pickup.

Re: G&L ASAT pickup.

I got lucky and bought the body and neck from the same seller. I already had a pretty good idea as to what I wanted with regards to hardware etc. The neck is pretty good, a bit like a Fender US Standard. I've rolled the edges a bit myself, but I find it a little too wide. Either way, acoustically it really sings, and I'm really looking forward to fitting some pickups and firing it up through my Marshall. Course, if I had the pennies, I'd just buy an ASAT Classic!!

Re: G&L ASAT pickup.

Cool, I won't tell him if you don't! It looks like you'll have a great guitar there in any case! I just had a thought, only last week we did our last gig of the year and our mates supported us, they just strated a Quo tribute band called Paper Plane. The one guy got a Peavey T type from sound control in Birmingham, it was real cheap. The hardware and pick ups etc were complete sh!te, but I reckon it was made from pine coz it had a great acoustic sound... I might just go get one to play about with coz I'd buy new hardware anyway, bridge with 6 brass saddles and a decent set of tuners. Oh man, you've given me GAS now....

Re: G&L ASAT pickup.

Go for the Wilkinson bridge if you do, it's brilliant. 3 brass saddles, but compensated for better intonation. I paid about £15 on Ebay for mine, and it really gives you that tone without compromising.

Re: G&L ASAT pickup.

Certainly will, hopefully I'll be able to post pics and a review in the next few weeks! Forget I mentioned pinching Keith's ASAT.........he was watching y'know....shhhhhhhhh :D

Re: G&L ASAT pickup.

Ahhhh... piece a tat anyway! He wouldn't be able to give that POS away!! All the best bud.

Re: G&L ASAT pickup.

Oh.... yo.... your still watching! Errrrmmmm......

*Off topic* Keith, what do think of Vol,Bass and Treble pots with the 3 pick ups? I think the pots in mine need upgrading anyway 'coz the volume pot isn't very smooth when trying to clean the sound up (if that makes sense?) Also, do you know if there is such a thing as a 3 pot control plate? The more I see those 3 pick ups the more I want more options to make it as versatile as a strat type!*off topic... sorry Stevie*

Re: G&L ASAT pickup.

No probs! I have seen a 3 pot Tele plate on Ebay before. It was very cramped. Perhaps you could get a blank and cut it yourself, to try and get the best layout.

Actually, that sounds like a good idea. I find I use the tone knob quite a bit on the ASAT, so having that extra amount of tweakability would be nice. It may be a bit complicated to use live, but could be good for using at home and in the studio.

Re: G&L ASAT pickup.

Yeah, going to have a look in about 45 mins!! Tell ya what though, I'm feeling really rough.. coughing and sneezing. Just sat down after fitting a new shower... the other one popped on christmas morning of all days! So, let ya know laters.

Re: G&L ASAT pickup.

I feel for ya bro. There's been various illnesses bouncing around our household this week. Fortunately, Christmas Day was one of the better days!

Re: G&L ASAT pickup.

Well Stevie, went into Birmingham... tried those cheap Peaveys.. not for me, to be honest they felt.. well, cheap! Lol. Great starter guitars. Out of curiosity I did try a bunch of guitars, mainly Tele's... and of about 25 I picked up I only found one that I would say could feel better than my G&L. It was a custom shop relic... not too heavily reliced... but it had real character! The problem... the price £2300! I just laughed... didn't go to buy anything like that and I certainly couldn't afford it... but wow, £2300 for what is the most basic of electrics. I've re-thought my plan... I'm just going to hold out on a used ASAT and I'll mod it to my hearts content. As long as I don't do anything stupid it will become my pick up test bed guitar... I'll have it routed under the plate for neck buckers. I'll probably have another plan next week, Lol. Let us know when you've finished yours!
