G&L good value?

Re: G&L good value?

Thanks for the good words on the look of my guitar, guys! :)

Yeah, actually, when I saw the pic of the guitar in the case, I instantly thought of your G&L, doveman. That means it was a good thing! ;)

Not trying to take anything away from your experience. I'm really glad for you man. I honestly think it's a beautiful color and I like the G&L controls with the Vol-Treb-Bass better than I did on my Strat. The overall quality is really good too.

Yours is the only Honeyburst I think I've seen outside of mine with a maple neck. There is a really pretty one here with a Rosewood neck here though. I'll bet he'll be by here in a minute or two. :)

Re: G&L good value?

Yeah, I've heard great words on the tone controls. I am curious to see if I can make the transition to that smooth..

You're thinking of Stevie_Bees right? ;) Really, the two G&Ls you two guys have are one of the nicest Strat-style guitars I have seen. I guess my purchase of the guitar was inevitable. :D

Re: G&L good value?

G&L are fantastic guitars.

I own a Legacy Special (1994) and a ASAT (1998)

However, resell values are lower.

The Legacy get's more playing time than my Stratocasters.

Maybe I should change my name to G&L Legacy Special...

That is only a bad thing if you ever want to sell it ... will not be a problem for me. In fact, it was a good thing for me. I got mine new about $200 less than a new American Strat ... and it was Swamp Ash, Premium Honeyburst finish. The store owner said he was dropping the line because people didn't know what they were ... I got the last one he had. It was a good day. :D

Re: G&L good value?

Where are you ordering the G&L lefties from, SouthpawGuy? I'm living in the Netherlands, so, any place that ships to Europe I guess... Also, how do the ASATs compare to MIM/MIA Fenders (playability and cost)?

Right now I've got just a MIM Tele (and an acoustic, naturally), and not any money to expand the collection, but G&L is on my short-list of gorgeous guitars I would love to own some day.

Jim is a good, straight speaking, christian, Houstonian. Good all-around individual.

He knows his products, market, and prices, so prices are just under list.
Guitars are set-up properly.

Good work and good deals.

Re: G&L good value?

i have had bot and i love my upper division Strat compared to the lower division Legacy Fender Strats have fifties love all over them where a g and l is just a good guitar with odd specs and a strange looking 2 point bridge The same is true of a 52 reiissue Tele it just rocks in a way the weird chrismas tree headstock cannot

Re: G&L good value?

The body (which I think may be one piece of Swamp Ash?) is beautiful and the overall feel is of exceptional quality...

Don't be disappointed because it doesn't matter, but the body is a 2 piece swamp ash construction. The tip off is the vertical grain running down the center. In flatsawn lumber (which your guitar is made from) the vertical, or straight grain will run along the two outside edges of the lumber, not in the center of the board. What you have is to pieces of swamp ash with the outside edges of each board oriented toward the center to provide a better grain match.

Regardless, that's a beautiful guitar and I would love it in my collection -- great score!
