G&L Invader thread w/ pics + Warmoth strat body arrived!

So, it's a G&L Invader XL, mahogany with maple top and birdseye maple neck. I LOVE this guitar! I bought this guitar from SocalSteve. 2nd Invader I purchased from him actually, great guy to deal with. This one is definately a keeper and my new #1. I set it up for lower action and put 10's on it, then put a jazz neck in and wired the coil split switch so it splits to the outside coils. I much prefer that anyway. I get a huge number of tones from this guitar now. I suck at writing reviews so I'll just post a pic.

The only thing I don't like is the location of the knobs and 5-way switch. What the hell were they thinking? It's really hard to manipulate them with the trem bar in too because it's always in the way of the knobs and switches.

My warmoth strat body also arrived the other day, first part received! I still need to order the neck though. I'm ordering parts as I can afford them. Alpine white, routed for wilkinson recessed, one-piece mahogany, heel contour, very lightweight!

Very nice axe..

I agree on the position of the switch, it should be above where the volume pot is (like on an RG etc) so you can still hit it with the bar in... Glad to see I'm not the only person that gets annoyed at control layouts :laugh2:

yup, that's still THE ONLY g&l i'd consider playing, it's just a killer looking guitar despite the retarded control layout lol. glad you found one you like! it's about damn time :)

I thought I might say something about sloppy seconds but thought that might be in bad taste. LOL That guitar kills! Also, that Warmoth project sounds like alot of fun, too. Enjoy!

Nice axe. I'm intrigued by the Warmoth too. What is the eventual plan?

That G&L has a gorgeous top on it! I love G&L's, even though things didn't work out with my Legacy. My SB2 bass is with me for life, though. :D Congrats

I knew you'd like that Invader, especially the mahogany body version with maple top like yours. Most people don't realize what a great model that guitar is.

My G&L Legacy Deluxe has become my most played guitar lately.

That G&L looks sweet. The Warmoth definitely has potential. I can't wait to see it progress.

Once I order the neck it'll be maple/maple with abalone dot inlays, tilt back strat headstock, stainless steel jumbo frets. It'll be dual humbucker with diamondplate pickguard, trem cover, and truss cover. Pretty much my ideal super strat.

Wow, I'd love that G&L. I don't mind the volume pot location either in terms of adjusting on the fly, but I can understand re using the Floyd...

I'm totally hooked on G&L. I'm just waiting on winning the Lotto, then I'm on a mission to buy every available G&L on ebay!!

that invader is super sweet...and it sounds like the project is gonna rock too!?

Re: G&L Invader thread w/ pics + Warmoth strat body arrived!

update: two minor disappointments with the guitar. Just disappointed in the fact that these two things would be overlooked on a high end guitar. One, the sustain block for the floyd rose is too long and it hits the trem cavity cover when you pull up on it. 2. the floyd bridge radius is flatter than the fretboard radius. Not uncommon, I know, but it's easy enough for a guitar maker to shim the saddles to match a radius, especially since all the guitars they put these on have a 12" radius.

Oh well, I've ordered a 32mm sustain block and FR saddle shims.
