Re: Garage Band Recording with iPad/MAC

Thanks for the pic. I was just ribbin you though. You posted similar statement after my focusrite info in all caps and I posted in tiny no caps with a wink (you know, like I'm kiddin around). Nevermind. I figured already it was like guitar rigs solution that plugs into the 1/8" stereo and allows for another 1/8" socket for your headphones and uses the input for its microphone to get guitar signal in the ipad. Those are fine for recording.

Probably won't work with your mac pro as the designs on the 1/8" might not be the same unless the mac pro has only single 1/8" connector and uses the port for dual purpose mic/headphone capability.

I dont know anything about mac pros, just the ipads.

HAHA NOT A PROBLEM...CAPS IS A HABIT....NO ON THE MACS THEY HAVE TO BE A "MONO" JACK SUPPOSEDLY...I TRIED THIS SETUP ON IT BUT IT WOULDN'T RECOGNIZE IT HAD ANYTHING PLUGGED INTO IT SINCE IT WASN'T MONO...

Re: Garage Band Recording with iPad/MAC

If you ever end up buying an interface for the Mac Pro that is USB, it should work through the camera connection kit on your ipad if you use a powered USB hub. Plug the hub into your camera connection kit USB port and the interface's USB into the powered hub usb ports. Its easier than it sounds and ipad will automatically recognize it in most apps. One interface to cover both mac pro and ipad. Have fun. Garageband is a fun, easy app. Has amps too and fx.

If you ever end up buying an interface for the MacBook Pro that is USB,

The current MBP is so slim that it probably cannot accommodate USB sockets along its edges. Might as well go Thunderbolt.

If you check out the latest ones on Apple website, they do have usb ports

Looks like thunderbolt, hdmi, usb all included on new

Re: Garage Band Recording with iPad/MAC

The garageband app is pretty cool when it comes to recording.....pretty simple....Do you recommend anything else to record on that is usually free in the APPLE APP store?

Re: Garage Band Recording with iPad/MAC

Er, do you have both the MBP and an iPad? If so, there are some nice instrument simulation apps that the iPad could generate and the MBP can record as real time audio.

The problem with apparently free musical apps is that they often require additional in-app purchases to get the capabilities up to expectations.

I cant really suggest anything I have experience with that is free, but you can go in the app store and sort by category for music stuff, then sort by free. I have a small fortune in paid apps on my ipad, but they are still a lot less expensive than the PC equivalent. Some very good stuff for reasonable prices if you decide to go that way. Garageband gives you a lot of instruments though and some tools that are easy to use. One could do a lot with just Garageband.

It is impossible to collect too many AU plug-ins. Instruments, amp modelling, signal processing of all kinds.

I read that GB 10 does not make these especially easy to select. The following tutorial video does a decent job of explaining.

Re: Garage Band Recording with iPad/MAC

True. Now, how do i get the overdubbed songs i recorded on, on a site like soundcloud or whatever?

GB 10? That must be the new update.

Re: Garage Band Recording with iPad/MAC

In Logic, on the screen toolbar, I click File. Towards the bottom of the menu, select the Share. This will present optional destinations such as Mail and SoundCloud.

Make certain to have the Track Select highlighting the longest track in the Project before hitting the Share to SoundCloud option. This should ensure that the bouncedown of your composition is not truncated.

I just tried it from my ipad and it gave me the option to go to soundcloud with the song....Didn't do it yet since i didnt have enough time to fool with it at the moment....Once i get it clear and perfect to my ear, I'll probably upload it
