Gary and old Strat fans! Take a peek

Let it B
Here is Gary's original strat and the Fender re-creation. Tweed and vintage DS1 goodness (odd combo, but it sounds fantastic)

For me this is THE guitar of his collection, as his early solo albums are my fave works of his. Never much cared for greeney as far as Les Pauls go.

I wonder if he'd say the same thing about that neck if it WASN'T Gary's... not saying its not a special guitar, but we certainly do put famous guitars on a pedestal because of who played them.

With that said, this is cool ****. Love Gary and love when Fender does these sort of things. The neck wear is also super cool and probably also a contributor to the comfort.

Re: Gary and old Strat fans! Take a peek

That does sound great. I only saw the intro to the video... that's really a DS1? I only had those when I had a really crappy little amp. Might need to give one another shot.

Re: Gary and old Strat fans! Take a peek

Yep,.Gary's old DS1 he's been using since the late 70s.

The old ones sound a helluva lot better. Not as strident in the top and bottom end.

Re: Gary and old Strat fans! Take a peek

I modded the crap out of the ones I had. Probably not hard to get a new one to sound like the old one.

Re: Gary and old Strat fans! Take a peek

The old ones were a different circuit and very different chip, much warmer and smoother. You can get the new ones to sound close, but not quite the same.

I thought Gary had great tone no matter what guitar he was playing.

Re: Gary and old Strat fans! Take a peek

seemed to me the old guitar sounded noticeably better then the new one or am i hearing things?

How old is the different circuit?

Re: Gary and old Strat fans! Take a peek

Not exactly sure of the dates, probably easy to google, but the MIJ ones and the very early MIT ones had the old circuit.

Re: Gary and old Strat fans! Take a peek

Gary's tone was always a little strange to me. I always wanted to dial the gain back a bit, and re-EQ it.

Listening to Some Gary Moore again after seeing this clip makes wonder once again why Joe Bonamassa has become such a super star. I admire and respect his work tremendously but how did he get as ~big as the Beatles?

He's crazy prolific and works his ass off promoting what he does.

And he's down to earth and approachable. He's been over at MLP forums lately talking about his recent nerdville video (must watch if you like vintage gear)

And he tours all the vintage stuff instead of hoarding it away.

Back on topic, Gary is definitely a huge influence on him. Now that Joe is back into Fenders, I hope we see him playing Gary's Strat at some point. There's a killer video of him doing "Sloe Gin" on Rory Gallagher's Strat.
