Gary's 58 Burst (another vintage Gibbo for sale)

Re: Gary's 58 Burst (another vintage Gibbo for sale)

Is that the one with the previously broken headstock (car accident)?

Re: Gary's 58 Burst (another vintage Gibbo for sale)

Greeny had the broken headstock iirc.

Fwiw I feel by far bis best sounding burst was the 58 lemony one he had with the uncovered pickups. He played on the live evening with the midnight blues band video. Real screamer.

Greeny sounds a little weak in the bridge position...although Gary certainly overcame... ;)

Yes.;)

I dont really like perfection in a top. Both of my Les Pauls and my 245 have some weirdness going on.

Meh, who'd want that old thing? You can't even play Over The Hills on it like you can with one of his Floyded Charvels....

Re: Gary's 58 Burst (another vintage Gibbo for sale)

As a huge gary fan PRE Blues.

His Fiesta Red 61 Strat is where its at for me. I think the sounds be was able to pull out it and his MIJ reissue was just beyond us mere mortals.

Charvy with 85 was a killer tone too...

You know me man, I just love bolt-ons with Floyds so I couldn't pass up the joke.

That said though, if I were burst shopping I'd be looking at this one over Gary's since that's not the "real" Moore burst anyway just a guitar he owned for a bit. Plus this one has the bonus of a double creme bridge PAF, zebra neck and non artist related price (which is still bonkers)....

All good, if I was ever to go that crazy Gary's would be on the short list

The Zinner is a little too washed out for me but you know it's a little like complaining about super models

Really.....you've played it personally??
Because the vid with Phil Harris playing it certainly sounds anything from weak.

Of course not. And yes I have watched the PH vid.

Compared to real Pafs in burst goldtops and lp/sgs I have played it sounds tame comparitively (in the bridge) Also compared to Gary's other guitars it sounds tame. From Black Rose/BotS til he sold it.

If you think it sounds absolutely the bees knees in the world of vintage Les Pauls, great. But I don't..neck tone maybe...but not bridge.

I really don't know how you're hearing what you are. That pickup is clear but full in the PH vid.

I think that was the 1 called 'Stripe' if I recall. I agree with you too!

Re: Gary's 58 Burst (another vintage Gibbo for sale)

Stripe was the 'Still Got The Blues' guitar I think.

This be the one

And with the magic of the internet, I now know it's actually a '59. (check the ebay ad above.. the dood added some pics-including scans of a magazine article about Gary's vintage les pauls)

I like Gary's playing, but I just wish he had turned the preamp drive down a bit - To me it sounds fizzy at full - when he drops the volume down quite a bit he's right into that super sweet tone.
