GAS ATTACK!

Well...for the first time in a while I gave into GAS. I've been pretty GAS free for a while now only buying things after careful consideration and only buying things that I really needed however this is a pure want!

Here is my new (to me) Danelectro Hodad Baritone!

Re: GAS ATTACK!

Here is the coolest part IMO...

I love Baritone guitars and love finding recordings that feature Baritones.

One of my favorite such recordings is Billy Sheehans first solo album, Compression. Save for one guitar solo by Steve Vai Compression features no guitar...only drums, bass and Baritone.

The Dano Bari I bought was purchased from Billy Sheehan and was used on that album...one of my favorite tracks in fact!!!

I'm pretty excited to own it!

Re: GAS ATTACK!

I remember those - Danelectro meets Mosrite, pretty cool, and yours has a story to go with it :cool2:. The one that had me intrigued was the two humbucker model with a Bigsby, and LP style controls, with push/pull tone pots.

Bet it's got some serious grunt. What does the toggle do? Is it like a blower switch?

Re: GAS ATTACK!

Nice! Congrats, dude. :beerchug:

How does it balance on a strap, by the way? Is it neck heavy?

Re: GAS ATTACK!

Cool looking guitar !
I only know of System Of A Down's guitarist, Daron Malakian, that used a Baritone guitar, an Iceman, he shows it in an interview.

Re: GAS ATTACK!

Kewl!

I am VERY suspicious of the current Dano crop. That said, I've played a 12 string of theirs that sounded incredibly good, and wasn't that badly built at all.

I like how it kind of resembles a Mosrite.

The Mosrite looks are part of the charm IMHO!

The 6 position selector have the same 5 positions like you'd find on a Strat as well as a neck and bridge setting like a Tele, the toggle wires all 3 pickups together in series.

is it made of MDF?

Pine and plywood for the body frame and Masonite for the top and back much like a Dano from the 50's or 60's.

Re: GAS ATTACK!

Hehe cool!!
Hodad....get out there and surf man:D

HA!

Not much on Surf but I bet this beast will rumble thru the old Twin Reverb!

Thanks man...I dunno about this one, I don't have it in hand yet but the U2 Bari's balance alright and aren't neck heavy...here's hoping this one is the same!

Thanks!

Baritones are all over the place if you listen...every where from old Country to Surf all the way up to modern metal...

The album that Billy used this one on has only one typical guitar track and everything else is Bari...lots and lots of Bari!

Well, this one is late 90's...I'm with ya, the first Gen Dano "reissues' were pretty cool for cheep guitars...the newest ones I've played were hit or miss more than the ones from the 90's.

All in all I'm pretty excited!

Cool. I've always wanted a Baritone, but never got serious about acquiring one.

I hear ya...I've wanted one for years and just never felt I had to pull the trigger...I've been wanting one more and more lately, even been using a spare Telecaster with heavy strings in Db or C as a fake Bari...this one popped up and I had to jump!

Loads!

Here's one:

Here is some killer slide on a Bari...dig the solo on this one!

Some funky Bari stuff...this is actually a 30 incher tuned E to E so it's really sort of a 6 string bass but close enough!

And a classic, another example of E to E bari/6 String bass...

It really is!

I saw it for sale and remembered reading an interview where Billy mentioned using a Dano bari on a track called Three Days Blind...I asked the seller and he called billy to confirm. It was in fact the Dano in question used on Three Days Blind...I had to have it!

It's actually still listed on Billy's site under equipment!
