All this talk of SG's on the forum has started another case of the GAAASSS...this time for an SG with P90's, in the dark wine color that Townsend used, like this:
Musician Friend had an exclusive on SG Classic's on sale for $849 recently, but they since gone up in price, they are red, plus I question the QC for an exclusive run for a retailer. For instance, I have heard that the Les Paul's that are made for Guitar Center aren't as nice as the regular line.
I had an SG classic earlier this year (since sold on Ebay) that was a GC creation, and I wasn't thrilled about the pups or the response of the knobs. I love playing through the neck pup, so when I would roll it back, hoping to get a fat tone for jazzier things, the tone did not vary much. Compare that to Townsend Live at Leeds or Isle of Wight, where "fiddling about" with the SG's knobs makes it sounds like several diff guitars.
Anyone have an SG with P90's (GC/MF run or not) ? Am I correct in thinking that the GC/MF exclusive run aren't the same as normal Gibson's?
Happy T-givng,
J
