GAS from years past

One of Jerry's Kids
Not sure what made me think of this unit. I remember playing it at a music store across from Berklee and I had to have it but as a broke college kid there was no way I could afford it. They were a flash in the pan on the market so I am guessing they were not a great seller. However, I remember GASing hard for this MXR. I could afford it now but it is clunky and I have no desire to own it.

What effect or amp did you have to have years ago that you never acquired? Here is my white whale.

I feel my list should be a lot longer, but unfortunately I've bought quite a few things I never really use because there was a time I really thought I needed it. I've gotten rid of quite a few guitars and several pedals for this reason. Pickups definitely. 90% of your experience owning a guitar pickup is branding. They convince you that you need to have this one magic coil of wire or you will never sound like your heroes, and then you play it and sound just the same as you did before, just with a different EQ

I've never seen this beast. I've seen the Ibanez version of it, though.

In the early 2000s I was just starting to play out live with my college band. I had a Line6 Flextone II HD and I really wanted what seemed like the next logical upgrade - the HD 147 head. 300 watts, new models, a snazzy look. Purple lights dammit. Sadly our time for each other has passed.

Could be wrong but I am pretty sure this was before the Ibanez version. The one I played is the only time in the wild or online I have come across one in my life. Like I said I have no desire to own one but I would love to play it and hear it again to see if my 20-year-old ear and current ear match up.

FYI - looks like a pretty cool setup. We know you like MXR dirt...

Yeah, but that is FUZZ, not distortion, not something I would want for a primary tone. Though I am looking for a fuzz box right now for a certain song.

Racks should make a comeback, but not like they were. Maybe completely redesigned, and a lot lighter.

Nope! My H90 has the functionality of 80% of my old 12 space rack and not only does it sound better but fits in my gig bag. An I never want to trouble shoot a nest of connections in a dark club ever again.

I have a 6 space rack that weighs about 80lbs, and the form factor totally sucks. But I could see something like rack effects being H90-sized that plug together with a midi controller out front.

Something like this:

I had that SR&D Octopus. It was great in theory, but it did not work with my two non-midi effects. I bought it to switch: my Chandler Tube Driver and my Effectron Jr Delay. Great idea in theory but did not work in real life.

There were a few things for me. Probably the prime one was the old H&K Cream Machine. True tube, lots of output options.

A 2nd one was the old Peavey Dual-Deltafex. That one I scored, about a decade ago. But I've never actually hooked it up yet. Got it at a local music store that was closing it's doors, brand new, dirt cheap. I should at least try it out.

I'm a big fan of rack mounted equipment that doesn't need to be rack mount. There is the ProCO R2Du that is a double Rat, JHS put a bunch of their stuff in 500-series boxes, you can get a rack mount Crybaby, and I'm sure there is plenty of other stuff similar.
