***GASP*** Is this true....

Re: ***GASP*** Is this true....

And there's one day and 16 hours left - can it reach $5,000?

Well, at least you know the market appreciates it...

Re: ***GASP*** Is this true....

Well guys - I'm out. I set a personal limit of 3k. Here was my reasoning:

A) The news article about the original owner seemed weak/inconsistent- Ace Freley spelled wrong...All kinds of South Carolina / Virginia / New York inconsistencies IMO.

B) The certificate of Authenticy was signed by the owner, and appeared made by him as well IMO.

C) As much as I love Ace-this was not a KISS guitar. At best it was a Frehley's Comet axe. Can't guarantee it was even played.

D) My ultimate KISS guitar is a mid 70's Custom in Cherry Sunburst - Smoke Bomb and all...

A Black Beauty of that era is 2k guitar - I was willing to go to three in spite of the above mentioned issues. I believe it to be an authentic gift from Ace. Can't say why. At 4k though - That's one hell of a Cherry Sunburst Cusom I could build. Just like Ace played. All I'd do is chop hack and adjust. No reason.

Thanks for being there guys...It was exciting for a wee bit, wasn't it?

Re: ***GASP*** Is this true....

****nnnnn...I think you made the right call. Nice axe, but yeah, too much for something not 100% in your mind. A buddy of mine on Telemodders does all kinds of reproduction guitars that are insanely accurate. Claptons Fool, Pages Tele, Neil Youngs black LP and yes, Aces smokin' guitar..I'll see if I can dig it up.

Re: ***GASP*** Is this true....

Now THAT is Ace all over! Definitely worth the 15k IMO. Don't have 15k unfortunately...

Re: ***GASP*** Is this true....

If what was his Tobacco Deluxe?

That Double cutaway. That "Allen Collins" guy had another thread last year at the Les Paul Forum that said he thinks it may have been converted from Ace's Tobacco Sunburst, the one from Kiss' early days. The one responsible for a lot of Kiss' early sound. The one Ace can't remember what happened to. He had a lot of pics from the cavities that were full of black debris, like maybe from smoke bombs, and the heel seems to be shaved back just like the Deluxe was. I never heard if he confirmed it, tho. I don't go over there much anymore.

Here's a link to the thread.

His first post is #35, and the pics of the back of the pickups and the cavities are in post #42. He started another whole thread about it, but I never saw an answer.

Re: ***GASP*** Is this true....

OMG - Ace lost that?!?!?!? I'm effin keeping mine!

That could be true. He isn't above painting them, and that heel on the Tobacco was sanded/chopped down like that double cut....

Re: ***GASP*** Is this true....

:haha::haha: "Location: Jendell":beerchug: I LOVE it! Yer Killin' me Ace! I just noticed that! When did ole' SpaceAce start thinking he really was an alien, anyways?

Yeah, I remeber reading an interview where Ace was asked about his massive vintage guitar collection, and he said he sold most of them when pointy's were all the rage. He said he thought the Deluxe was part of that purge, but he couldn't remember. "Dont Do Drugs", indeed. I wouldn't be surprised if he forgot he had it drastically modified.

Kind of wish I had the scratch, tho. That double cutwould be really cool!

I don't have the cash for that....but that guitar IS worth it IMO - even in it's bastardized condition. Even more so...

How much more ACE do you get than "The guitar that made millions of kids love KISS and want to play guitar - a defining rock tone of the 70's instrument from one of the greatest live albums ever made, that I got all high, modifed and then forgot what happened to it because I was high."

That IS worth 15k to me easy....quintessential Frehley!

As oppossed to the black beauty that occupies most of this thread...

Re: ***GASP*** Is this true....

I hear ya! If that really is the Deluxe, that is THE guitar that made me want to pick one up. You too, I'll bet. That Black Beuaty is way cool, too, tho, but not 15k cool.

Re: ***GASP*** Is this true....

I was up at Gruhn's in Nashville the other day and saw this. The price was lowered from $17,500 to $12,000. I always have my accounts frozen before I go in there!!!!!

This is from the website:

Gibson prototype Ace Frehley Les Paul, the second of two handmade prototypes by Phil Jones of Gibson, 1996, M, sent direct to Ace Frehley by Gibson after being displayed at the NAMM show.
