Gear Updates: (including pups, pedals and amp)

Hey all, I've been selling gear lately and now that I'm not going with the custom shop pickups but stock stuff instead, plus I got a bonus at work for putting in some extra hours after school a few days (I work on the weekends) so I got some cash to blow on some stuff. I sold my OCD, Fulltone Fulldrive II MOSFET and I will be selling my Crybaby Classic and Gibson amp. Plus all the money I got from working my ass off during the weekends and a nice chunk of cabbage from a scratch off ticket I got on Easter. Heres my master plan: Buy some antiquity humbucker pickups for my R7, Teese Wizard Wah, a 1x12 Tweed Champ clone from Scott F and maybe some cables. I just wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with those Fulltone cables. They look awesome and I read some nice positive reviews on them. I dont like the mostner cables I've been using. My cables are pretty mismatched (maybe a live wire, the gibson cable that came with my R7, and a monster standard 100 cable). They all crackle and get messed up (lose signal etc etc) Plus I wanted a 15 footer instead of a 12. What do you guys recomend for patch cables between the pedals (like the 6" cables). Any feedback on all this stuff? Thanks!

I have not tried the Lava stuff but to be completely honest I have always been so happy with my George L's that I can't really see myself trying anything else! I use the bigger stuff for going from guitar to pedal boatd and from the board to my amp(s) and the smaller stuff for my boatrd itself...buy the cable and buy the ends then all it takes is a few minutes and you have all the cables you need in all the lenghts you want!

I also use nothing but George L's and I love them. My tone has never been better. Lew

Have you checked w/ Scott already regarding the Champ clone? I know he's sorta locking down his product offerings.

I have talked to him, but I do not think it was since he did that "thanks from celtic amps" post on the off-topic section. I'll talk to him once my Gibson GA5 is out the door again and see what he can do. If not, hes making an "SE" version of his deluxe clone which is supposed to be a princeton with a larger speaker - so I'll see what's up with that.

And George L's is definitely a company I had in mind... I gotta check out the Lava cables. Thanks for the replies guys!

Gunny if you want a tweed Champ with a larger speaker (big improvement BTW) Call Bruce at Mission amps...his stuff really is a "cut above" and he'd be glad to do one of those!

You could order a Princeton...same amp as a Champ but includes a tone control. And then have it put in a tweed Harvard cab which takes a single 10" speaker. That's the way my Princeton is. And I use a Weber P10RT for the 10.

If you order a new amp, you might consider going with a 8 ohm transformer rather than the usual 4 ohm tranny in a tweed Champ. It's easier to find good 10" speakers in 8 ohm. Lew

Good Call(s)!

I know Bruce would build it just like if you wanted to...IMO the bogger speaker, 8 ohm tranny and tone control woudl make the amp MUCH more useable that just a plain old Champ!

Re: Gear Updates: (including pups, pedals and amp)

alright thanks for the suggestions guys! BTW, what would the significance of the 8 ohm tranny be?

Re: Gear Updates: (including pups, pedals and amp)

vox makes some good affordable high end cables. i got one recently, and it's a real improvement over the fender tweed. how it compares to others i'm not sure, but worth a try.

Champs have a 4 ohm tranny, this means yu have to find a 4 ohm speker or order it custom made...most single speakers are either 8 or 16 ohms, going to an 8 ohm tranny leave you a LOT more options for speakers.
