Gearjoneser - That 9k PG....

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
Sounds freaking AWESOME! Thanks to LtKojo and the others who suggested this.

I have it loaded up in my Cherry Sunburst Cadillac. I'll try and get a vid of it playing Tush tonight at DOA.

But - for the record, I LOVE everything about the sound of it. It isn't exactly the regulalr PG sound. But I think all the PG bridge haters would LOVE it. The extra little wind does some very very nice (and nasty) things to it!

Was that a custom shop 9k PG? Sounds interesting

Re: Gearjoneser - That 9k PG....

the cs can work magic as long as you have the $$$

Re: Gearjoneser - That 9k PG....

for folks who dont have the scratch the stock PG bridge has alot of push for a A2 PAF type. its def. alot more complex in the upper mids than i ever expected.

9k would knock off some of that rude treble which would rule.

and as we all know the stock neck pickup is heaven. plenty of cut and its warm as hell.

Re: Gearjoneser - That 9k PG....

He mentioned me because we were both at User Group Day making these custom pickups, courtesy of the Duncan company. I've been asking him if he's installed it yet.

I guess you could call it a Shop Floor Custom, because nobody was having MJ make their humbuckers in the Custom Shop room. We each had a bag of parts and a spec sheet, then a production floor employee showed us how to load it onto the winding machine, set the specs digitally, and push Start on the machine. Then another worker helped us assemble them.

I chose a gold Brobucker......actually two, since my wife was a guest as well.
Those ended up in my LP Custom Black Beauty, and sound great.

Re: Gearjoneser - That 9k PG....

I can imagine that a 9K PG would be a most bodacious bucker.

We agree, dude

Re: Gearjoneser - That 9k PG....

Now, how does a 9k PG sound compared to the '57 Classic Plus (9.1k, A2)?

('57 Classic/Classic Plus haters no need to comment)

oooh - that's a really good question!

The answer is it does not matter, because THIS one is a Floor Custom wound by me!

Re: Gearjoneser - That 9k PG....

Hey aceman. That thing must be awesome! I was wondering how the "balls" on this thing compare to some of the other humbuckers that you like (custom, DD, etc.)

I realize that it's lower output but can it do everything that you want?

Not a bad idea, SD should offer something like that, call it a Pearly Gates Plus... ;)

Actually, the PG is the one low output SD that I liked. (I hate the Demon and the 59 is kinda weak.) I was able to get a great black metal sound out of it when pushed hard enough.

Re: Gearjoneser - That 9k PG....

You know, I think i like this way better than i'd like a Demon....

It's got the A2, but it has the extra winds, and it's the PG. That PG Plus a5 thing is a different creature.

Word was it sounded great last night.

It's a different beast. First, it's not a beast! Custom and Distortion are Beasts.

definitely has a touch more nad than a standard PG. But again - great all around pickup IMO. I'd play anything on it with the right amp/dirt etc...

Re: Gearjoneser - That 9k PG....

So, it is the same wind and everything as a PG, just wound up to 9.0K?

Sounds interesting--I've been suggesting an overwound, potted Seth Lover Bridge each time the "Build a new Forum pickup" bus comes to town. I could imagine this would be in the same ballpark as the '57 Classic Plus, the Brobucker or the Burstbucker 3.

I'm also wondering about the low end on this. Does the low E string have any "twang" to it at all when played clean? The one thing I like about my Historic LPs with the BB 1 & 2--with the right setting on the amp the BB 2 sounds like a tele on steroids.

Interesting concept for this pickup--I'd love to hear more.

Thanks,

Bill
