yeah...$200 a pair is a bargen! There are other tubes that bring WAY more that $200 a pair...not to say that 200 bones for a pair of tubes is not a lot of cheese, it is but price a set of 6146's or NOS 7027's...and those are just 2 off the top of my head...
I've seen some audiophile type tubes, can't remember what, but they were $800.00 a pair!!!
You think we're gear crazy....These guys that deal in high end audio equipment are completely NUTS!!!
The local guy I get tubes from Ken at www.tubeman.com has a GIGANTIC collection of albums. The last time I was there, he showed me his audio room......MASSIVE surround sound stereo equipment. The very best of everything.
Made me & my Pioneer stereo seem completely insignificent:laugh2:

KCA NOS TUBES has these for $385 a pair. Either hte ones you are looking at are priced 200 a piece or they are relabeled current production ones. Nowhere did I read NOS on that ad. After looking at both pictures, if the tubestore had them NOS and really NEW old stock, that's a freaking steal! But like any power tubes, you'll kill them eventually. When that happens, you might ahve gotten so spoiled that the Valve ARts or the Groove Tubes HP's won't sound very good. (although the Groove Tube ones sound incredible.)
oh my goodness .. that tube is like a price of a small amp.
I don't know how much difference will it make but it better be distinctive.
like some say, we pay the price for the tone
I didn't know that a 6L6 was the same as a KT-66... I didn't know that GEC ever made a 6L6...
On that note, the reason they're so outrageously expensive is because Clapton's 'Bluesbreaker' combo that he used on the famous "Bluesbreakers" album had KT-66s in it.
That's the beginning of modern rock guitar tone, and you'll pay the price if you want the tubes...:blackeye:
Wanna know the scary part? That is probaly cheap for those tubes if they are a advertised. Somebody must have found a big batch of them somewhere. I recall that AC/DC had to pay like $300 per tube back in 98 to get top flight NOS KT66's when they had their old JTM's rebuilt. And to the best of my knowledge, they haven't built any more NOS GEC's since then..lol
