George Harrison's Tone

Well, not his current tone actually, but I just picked up the remastered dual CD classic, "All Things Must Pass".

(did I get that title correct?)

This is as close to a Beatles album of anything that any of the other 3 did after the break up. Amazing piece of work. For all you Beatles fans that have missed this classic, the new remastered version has some other added material to the original and is worth the price.

Re: George Harrison's Tone

I totally agree, Scott. That album is amazing; I'm a huge Beatles fan (believe it or not) and my son's middle name is LENNON. LOL
If you're into George Harrison, I would suggest that you check out ELLIOT SMITH. You will thank me if you haven't heard his stuff yet -- don't let the trendy look of his CD scare you away ...

And thanx for demonstrating how we can introduce subjects like this into the new, more flame-resistant forum ... ;)

Re: George Harrison's Tone

Great album Scott.

It's interesting (to me, atleast) that of the 4 Beatles, George's debut album was the best of all. He had years of songs that were written as Beatles songs that never made it past the Lennon/McCartney juggernaut.

George will be known as a great guitarist, but he was a fantastic songwriter in the same league as his counterparts. ("Something", "Here Comes the Sun", "I Need You", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Old Brown Shoe", "Taxman"............).

I've still got the vinyl & don't even have a record player. I'll have to grab the disc!!!

Re: George Harrison's Tone

Absolutely a great album.

The Live in Japan thing he did with Clapton is pretty good, too.

Re: George Harrison's Tone

I remember when Frank Sinatra did Something (In the Way You Move)....and introduced it as a Lennon and McCartney tune. :smack: :burnout: He dug the tune though, even if he got the songwriter wrong.

Re: George Harrison's Tone

I am pretty sure Frank called it the "best love song ever written" or something like that. And Frank sang a few pretty good ones! So I bet George got over it. :)

My son's name is Harrison G.! The G is for Gene but we can pretend it is for George. :)

Yep...I think he did say something like that. He loved that tune! OK...I'm out of here. Off to see my daughter in her high school's production of "Guys and Dolls" tonight. :)

Re: George Harrison's Tone

I remember my Mom picked that album up at a garage sale when I was in Highschool and gave it me. That album is so great, I think Harrison had the best solo stuff out of all the Beatles.

Its a shame that after he died people finally realized how great of a songwriter he truley was!!

Re: George Harrison's Tone

Yeah that's how it usually works hey. Kinda makes you think what things would be like if all the greats were still alive!!

Elliot Smith? Didn't realize you liked emo :laugh2:

Re: George Harrison's Tone

Yep, ole George was just as good as the others...even if he did write, "Got my mind set on you," or, as Weird Al redid it, "This song is just six words long."

Then again, he also wrote "Crackerbox Palace." I have always liked that song, even though I never could figure out what it was about...especially after seeing the video :smack:

Re: George Harrison's Tone

Have you guy's heard the 'Concert for George' DVD? What a great tribute to the man it was. Tears came to my eyes when some of his songs were played, I kid you not!

Re: George Harrison's Tone

Watched it ... some parts were excellent ... some parts (very few) had me scratching my head

I wouldn't consider Elliot Smith emo, just good songwriting, impeccable production value, and killer vocal skills.

There are a couple of bands I like, btw, that are considered emo now, but I got into them before anyone coided the phrase "emo".

Re: George Harrison's Tone

"Dark Horse" is a hidden gem of an album also. George has a ton of soul in his voice and in is playing.

I like Elliot Smith too.. a bit depressing, but I am a sucker for bands with a heavy Beatles influence, because it's like an extension of the Beatles to me.

What was Ellitot's band before he went solo??

Re: George Harrison's Tone

I also love Harrison's tone on Helter Skelter.. very raw with lots of style.
