Bought 750' of George L cable and about 100 plugs!

I've been switching over to George L's and making up alot of cables in differant lengths.

I can hear the diff between the George L's and the other cables I've been using...mostly Rapcos. More highs from the George L's.

It's subtle, but there really is a diff.

And I like the feel of the George L smaller diameter cable.

I've been using the slip on colored relief thingies over the brass plugs too...makes it easier to grip the plugs and pull 'em out and push 'em in....and looks cool too if you match blue with blue cable or red with red cable.

Anyways, just a head's up: the George L cables are very, very nice and sound great.

Eric Johnson uses them.

I love them!

I re did my pedal board last year in 1004% George L's and I've been using the long George L's for years...IMO, best cable out there!

Re: George L Cable...the best???

Agreed, Lew & Christian. I'm sold on them.

They work great though...and it's nice to be able to shorten a cord or reuse the plug without dealing with solder and what not. Even the right angle plugs work without a hitch.

I do like using them with the optional slip on stress relief plastic sleeves though. The plug is kind of small and getting a hold of it to pull it back out again once it's plugged into the recessed output jack on my Teles is hard without the sleeve. They look good too...

I threw mine out a decade ago;)
I never got to like them much...hehe never ever worked more than 10 days at best, dunno why I was so damm unlucky with those??

Re: George L Cable...the best???

to be honest i was 50-50 on them but TGWIF talked me into giving mine another shot. so as i rewire my new pedalboard i will be using george l's (red "vintage" wire) on it again from my old board in new wire lengths.

fingers crossed for good sound :fingersx:

Really??? Eric Johnson has used the same, very old, red George L cord for years and years. I'm new to the George L thing myself....we'll see how they hold up.

So far so good!

yup, & consequently, when ever I have a "ice pick" situation, the george L's are the first to get replaced.

Re: George L Cable...the best???

George L's is good but not the best. Most of my customers prefer Canare GS-6 over it - especially those who have used it - many comments posted on my website along these lines.

The Evidence Audio Lyric HG and the Klotz are both superior to George L's IMO and many others - recently at NAMM the folks at Evidence Audio used George L's to A/B against because the difference was so noticable and profound. I just switched to the Lyric HG from Canare GS-6 and the difference was quite impressive - much more depth and the responsiveness of amp was better than it has ever been.

I have also had numerous customers complain of the unreliablity of the mechanical termination of George L's on their pedal board (they are constantly dealing with shorts and bad terminations)- that's why I make patch cables with it by soldering good G&H gold contact right angles on.

I've been using them for about 6 years. I first used them to set up a pedalboard mainly because they were so easy to use for this purpose. I was using 2 amps so I had some effects going into one and some going to another and before I made the board I had wires going everywhere.:smack:

The George L's worked so well and the sound difference IMO was a bonus. I had read all the Hipe and quite honestly I didn't believe they would make that much of a difference. But they did.

I use the thin cables as well as the thicl ones. At home I use the thin ones, with the guys I play with I use the heavier gauge. I like the heavier gauge a little better, I don;t think there is a noticable difference betwwen the thick and the thin, but the thin tends to get tangled easier. Thats is my only complaint. Great cables and worth the little extra they cost.

I bought 4 premade cables and I bought raw cable to make my own..... they all work well!

Re: George L Cable...the best???

I've been using them for about five years now. I was at a jam once were I was using just a regular 15' music store cord and just got terrible tone. It was like it was under water. I was playing one of my best guitars through Victoria amp too. Sometime later I pulled out this same cord (I usually used a short length cord) and I realized it had been this high cap cord. I started using George L's shortly there after and havn't looked back.

The only problem I have with them, is their tendancy to get tangled up. On a bright guitar with brand new strings, I might pull out a Fender California cord for the couple of plays, but I don't find that the George L's cause excessive brightness, as much as it just makes the sound more clear

Nope, actually it was Bill L.. George kinda 'stole' the idea and made it big.

I use George L's between my GT-8 and Koch Pedaltone, and really like them. I wouldn't use them as an instrument cable though. I tried, but I think it sounded kind of 'cold'. I prefer Spectraflex instrument cables, and only use the George L's for my pedals.

Re: George L Cable...the best???

The George L´s are great cables, especially for picky players without mucho moolah for superheavyhighend cable.

I´ll stick with my Samson Armored Cables, though.. Sounds better IMO and the armor is a godsend live... or a wireless, of course ;)

Re: George L Cable...the best???

Yep, Jeroen beat me to it, Bill Lawrence originally designed it in the 80's. I use his cables for my pedalboard and I use Bayou (aka Canare GS-6 and Neutrik jacks) for the longer runs (from guitar to pb and from pb to amp).

Re: George L Cable...the best???

George L's are good, but Evidence Audio Lyric cables are definitely better. But don't take my word for it, try them out.

That's what I said! +1

Re: George L Cable...the best???

The Geroge L's are just fine with me...

My Gosh...how much brighter do you really want your guitar to sound?

The George L's are the choice of Eric Johnson...I'll trust his ears.

And mine.
