Re: George Lynch's Tiger guitar pickup?
I've met a few rockers in my day, and he's the real deal. As in he's a real person. He is very humble. He downplays his skill. He's broke in comparison to a lot of the dudes from back in the day but he keeps on going, obviously it's a passion. He improvises where others play the same thing over and over again. He does projects that matter (like his Native American project, shadow train). He still plays his tiger, which is a $20 body with a bunch of spare & cheap parts on it. He plays magnatones & friedmans mostly - his tone is fine - if not more organic verses his more glam days. Not to mention he wipes the floor with about any professional player out there. Whatever chip is on your shoulder you can eat it, crap it out, then eat it again.
This is why you and I get along great as friends. You're one who gets it.
Because Lynch is a famous guitarist, his personality gets scrutinized as much as his playing, and then you have all the half baked wanna be's taking jabs at him, who obviously don't know him or aren't skilled enough at guitar to even evaluate his playing.
Let's get real. Lynch is a self taught, original, and unschooled type player, who's carved out a style and a great career for himself, which is a dream for most. He comes off humble, because he's sort of an introvert who's spent his life lost in his fretboard, which is why he'll wipe the floor with about everyone reading this.
I'll admit that I used to think he was a tad bit ignorant, mostly because he down plays his skill and knowledge when being filmed. But make no mistake....he's no idiot. He knows what he knows, and knows what he doesn't know, and makes no claim otherwise. If you meet him, you tend to like him and admire him.
Has he stagnated? Are you F'ing kidding? The KXM CD with Dug Pinnick and Ray Luzier, if you had even noticed and bought it, is a modern classic guitar rock record. I wish all those guys would ditch their bands, and make that the priority, because it's probably the best record any of them ever made. That's the band, not F'ing Korn, Kings X, or Lynch Mob!
As for the pickup. He probably hardly cares, but since he's tight with Seymour and MJ, it could be anything from a production model to a User Group Day pickup he wound, since he actually showed up to one.
