Re: George Lynch's Tiger guitar pickup?

Who cares ?
Back in the day the guy was a God.
His playing in the Stars video is unbelievable.

Unfortunately all I see from his now is totall shreddy bollocks with no real skill, terrible tone and no regard for the song.
He also seems to have turned into an unlikable human being.

Real shame as I, like most, worshipped him in my youth.

I've met a few rockers in my day, and he's the real deal. As in he's a real person. He is very humble. He downplays his skill. He's broke in comparison to a lot of the dudes from back in the day but he keeps on going, obviously it's a passion. He improvises where others play the same thing over and over again. He does projects that matter (like his Native American project, shadow train). He still plays his tiger, which is a $20 body with a bunch of spare & cheap parts on it. He plays magnatones & friedmans mostly - his tone is fine - if not more organic verses his more glam days. Not to mention he wipes the floor with about any professional player out there. Whatever chip is on your shoulder you can eat it, crap it out, then eat it again.

That guitar has probably had a dozen if not more pickups in it over the years.

It's obvious you like George. However, he's really let his chops slide. Check the video he did with Chris Broderick. I love when he's on, but he...wasn't.

Re: George Lynch's Tiger guitar pickup?

Tiger was his first custom guitar and he used the Distortion for years before the Demon came along. The famous Dokken tones from the 80's = Distortion.

I do think he can be off, and musically, I prefer his older lead work. The "unlikable human being" thing rubbed me wrong, simply because I've met some idols/stars that were jerks and he was not of their ilk. If he met him and got a different vibe, then ok.

George has twice the ear for melody Broderick has ...& he's still got it in spades...the guy is a MONSTER improviser with an endless array of chops. He feels his stuff the way Broderick can only dream of...sorry but it's true. 8 finger tapping? ...lol a trained monkey can do that :D

I know there are a lot of Broderick fanboy's out there..especially since his stint with Megadeth, but I'm not one of them ;)

Re: George Lynch's Tiger guitar pickup?

George lost it in this vid for sure...

Anyway, how did we end up talking about Lynch and whether he's decaying or not?

Re: George Lynch's Tiger guitar pickup?

^^ can't say I really heard anyone shine over-much..

..does it have to come to scanning youtube to find ****ty lo-fi barely audible bootleg clips of half-baked boring jams just to take digs at Lynch? Sorry if I hurt your sentiments about Broderick..

Re: George Lynch's Tiger guitar pickup?

No, I hate Broderick. Don't know where you got the wrong idea from.

I just happen to love Kotzen and Gilbert enough to watch too many vids of them and stumbled on that vid months ago.

EDIT: That's rather inaccurate. I love Paul and like Richie's playing.

Re: George Lynch's Tiger guitar pickup?

lol, fair enough...can't say I dislike their playing much either, especially Gilbert's :p

This is why you and I get along great as friends. You're one who gets it.

Because Lynch is a famous guitarist, his personality gets scrutinized as much as his playing, and then you have all the half baked wanna be's taking jabs at him, who obviously don't know him or aren't skilled enough at guitar to even evaluate his playing.

Let's get real. Lynch is a self taught, original, and unschooled type player, who's carved out a style and a great career for himself, which is a dream for most. He comes off humble, because he's sort of an introvert who's spent his life lost in his fretboard, which is why he'll wipe the floor with about everyone reading this.

I'll admit that I used to think he was a tad bit ignorant, mostly because he down plays his skill and knowledge when being filmed. But make no mistake....he's no idiot. He knows what he knows, and knows what he doesn't know, and makes no claim otherwise. If you meet him, you tend to like him and admire him.

Has he stagnated? Are you F'ing kidding? The KXM CD with Dug Pinnick and Ray Luzier, if you had even noticed and bought it, is a modern classic guitar rock record. I wish all those guys would ditch their bands, and make that the priority, because it's probably the best record any of them ever made. That's the band, not F'ing Korn, Kings X, or Lynch Mob!

As for the pickup. He probably hardly cares, but since he's tight with Seymour and MJ, it could be anything from a production model to a User Group Day pickup he wound, since he actually showed up to one.

Probably he changed the poles.
So he changed the row of hex heads to slugs? Have you ever taken one of these pickups apart before? Notice anything different between a screw and a slug?

I didn't say a damned thing about how awesome Broderick is, though I WILL say the dudes that slag him for having no feeling should compare him to MAB...and you point to his 8 finger tapping to prove your point...I'll just leave that here, but you ought to really think about how you present yourselves in comparison to the 60s/70s rockers that slammed EVH and, oh, George Lynch for having no feeling back in the day.

What I DID say was that Unca George flat sucked in that video. You can pull up 80s/90s/2000s/from-4-years-ago vids all day and yep, he can rock. All I'm saying is the last one he did, he did NOT make a good showing of himself.

Re: George Lynch's Tiger guitar pickup?

everyone has an off day every now and then. I would rather be able to play like George Lynch on his off day than alot of other good guitar players on their good days.

Re: George Lynch's Tiger guitar pickup?

This made me laugh, The guitar design has been around for 27 years and he never knew what the Japanese script said. HAHAHA he is great

That was 30 years ago, when his level of skills was considered superb. People have improved greatly these days that his style of shred/ whatever isn't considered cool anymore. Listen to Yngwie's 1984 record. Doesn't it sound like plain-old vanilla, when you factor in contemporary players like Guthrie Govan or Greg Howe, even the guys in Avenged Sevenfold.

Can't really blame George.
