Gerlitz Guitar Honey

I bought some "Gerlitz Guitar Honey" a week back and it arrived in the mail yesterday. Man is this stuff awesome. I cleaned my fretboard last night and applied it, and it looks brand new. Here is their site, with a better description of what it actually does:

I'm trying to get my guitar back up to speed, I've been neglecting it too long. Next up is a pickup swap and complete setup.

I've used their wax for years - it's the best polish I've seen.

That stuff is top-shelf all the way. I use it about twice a year on all non-maple fretboards. Once New Englad has it's annual cold snap I can watch the 'boards lighten up as the humidity in the air drops like a stone.

The only other stuff I ever used that I liked was Gurian Oil or something to that effect.

Same thing happened hear, once it got real cold the fret board dried right up. Now it has a nice shine to it.

I think I'm gonna go ahead and order the wax as well.

I need some of this stuff but since I don't have any right now, what can I use in the interim? The humidity is uncharicteristically low here right now and I have two guitars with rosewood boards and my acoustic. I worry about the acoustic more so she stays in the case with a case humidifier. I have some lemon oil that I've used in the past.

Lemon oil should work just fine. Another option is linseed oil, but its supposed to be either boiled or unboiled, I can't remember which one off the top of my head.

Cool. I'll use up the lemon oil I have. I know my Kramer could use something on the fretboard this time of year. The LP is looking good but will get some anyway since she's been played so much.

I never fould lemon oil to do anything but dry up and leave the fretboard the same color...i.e. no moisture was being left behind.

Linseed oil I found to leave a funny smell and a gunk that I couldn't get rid of on a Strat neck. Totally ruined the guitar for me and I regret ever getting the stuff. It was the right one (boiled or unboiled....can't remember now but I researched it at the time)

The only stuff I found worth using is Gurian Fingerboard oil or Guitar Honey. Honestly, I wouldn't use anything BUT either of those. You can go without for the week it will take it to get to you.

Cool. I'll use up the lemon oil I have. I know my Kramer could use something on the fretboard this time of year. The LP is looking good but will get some anyway since she's been played so much.

If the guitar looks good then there's no sense in using anything on it.

A rosewood fretboard that's getting enough play will rarely NEED any sort of maintenance that way. Simply scrubbing gunk out of the frets when doing a string change should be enough.

I use Guitar Honey BECAUSE I don't get to play my guitars enough. But then again, holding down a 40 hour a week job and having a newborn in the house...it's shocking I have enough time to get anything done during the week!

I know what you mean. We have a 2 1/2 year old. She can be a handful. I didn't get to play a lot at all when she was a baby but I made time for it. It actually soothed her to sleep sometimes. It's better now and I get to play a lot more.

Thanks for the tip on the rosewood. My Kramer (avatar) is the only one I worry about because I don't play that one very often. It is in the case though and the closet is pretty cool.
