I would like to start recording, guitar, vocals, bass(maybe drums):

I have:
*A nice Amp
*Nice guitar
*cables
*Nice PC
*the program Cubase

Budget around $500 hopefully, hope this isn't too weak.

What's my best line?

Thanks so much!

Re: Get me recording please

Tascam got a nice 8 track disk recorder for around 300
only problem is you only have two inputs at a time ( if that's a problem )
Really easy to use ,,wish I could remember the model ,, anyway check out their website tascam .com

Re: Get me recording please

I second (or third?) a stand alone recording device, such as a digital 8 (or higher) track machine. Stand alone units are so much more intuitive and it takes away all the potential latency and "I can't hear myself as I record" problems. Most have the ability for you to upload the tracks onto a computer so you could edit them and/or mix-n-master them (like in cubase).

Re: Get me recording please

If you want plan on going acoustic down the road I would recommend the Mbox mini. I have this and it works well. It comes with Protools LE. I use this with my Mac and Pro tools as well as Garage band. It is a mic preamp and has 2 lines. You can plug a mic in or an istrument. For recording your amp you will need a good mic plugged into the preamp (Mbox). Another option is to get an amp modeler like a line 6 or the Berhinger Vamp. Either of these are ok, but your amp miked will probably sound better overall. Line 6 also makes 3 different versions of the Pod ready to record with preamps and all built in. I have not used this, but I have heard a lot of good things about them. Either way for vocals or acoutic instruments, you will need a good preamp. The Mbox works well for me.

Ive had good results recording with the TC konnect 8 or 16 as an interface. It comes with cubase, but honestly i prefer using garage band. Im a mac user though. I use sennheuser mics.
