So I have this Squier CV Strat that I made into my own WK trib and I like it, it's nothing extraordinary but it looks cool and it's fun to play and mess with. I've actually gotten dialed in pretty good but something was just not right with the sound, it was sort of hollow and not in the good and funky kind of way.
The body is very nice and I've had a couple of real good necks on it so I was sure the issue lay else where. So when I was changing the strings about 2 months ago and I realized I was once again using an allen key to pop the strings out and I needed to change that skinny poorly machined piece of pot metal that constitutes Squiers attempt at a trem block.
The trem plate is fine and not a bad slab of metal and I have Graphtech saddles on so what to do? Well I was on GFS' site to grab a Wilkinson bridge for my cheapo Tele project and I came across these replacement trem blocks they sell. I guess I had seen them before but it never really crossed my mind to try them. Well long story short I bought one, super simple to swap and what a difference! The guitar sounds right as rain now, and the strings don't get stuck in the trem block which makes me really happy.:headbang:
My guess is that near any MIM, MIK or MIC Strat would benefit tremendously from this really easy and inexpensive upgrade.
*** it is taller than the stock block so your rear cover might not exactly fit ***
