GFS brass trem block Import 10.5mm

So I have this Squier CV Strat that I made into my own WK trib and I like it, it's nothing extraordinary but it looks cool and it's fun to play and mess with. I've actually gotten dialed in pretty good but something was just not right with the sound, it was sort of hollow and not in the good and funky kind of way.

The body is very nice and I've had a couple of real good necks on it so I was sure the issue lay else where. So when I was changing the strings about 2 months ago and I realized I was once again using an allen key to pop the strings out and I needed to change that skinny poorly machined piece of pot metal that constitutes Squiers attempt at a trem block.

The trem plate is fine and not a bad slab of metal and I have Graphtech saddles on so what to do? Well I was on GFS' site to grab a Wilkinson bridge for my cheapo Tele project and I came across these replacement trem blocks they sell. I guess I had seen them before but it never really crossed my mind to try them. Well long story short I bought one, super simple to swap and what a difference! The guitar sounds right as rain now, and the strings don't get stuck in the trem block which makes me really happy.:headbang:

My guess is that near any MIM, MIK or MIC Strat would benefit tremendously from this really easy and inexpensive upgrade.

*** it is taller than the stock block so your rear cover might not exactly fit ***

I think GFS is a good brand and they are more affordable than some other brands whose blocks cost almost a $100!:23: These higher priced blocks used cold-rolled steel for that extra sustain, but a brass block like a GFS is all you really need.;) BTW, would GFS have trem blocks for a Squier Affinity with it's thinner body?

Re: GFS brass trem block Import 10.5mm

I think they only make the one for that spacing so it would stick out the back a little bit. If you know anyone with a machine shop they might be able to cut or mill it down slightly for you.

That's probably the only way to go...it's too bad GFS couldn't do a custom cut to save time, but there are plenty of machine shops around my area.;)

I bought the GFS steel block for my MIM Std. Strat, and it is pretty good, don't know about the brass one. Just don't buy the complete import trem they sell with the solid block, it is not good. The bevel on the plate that the trem pivots on is in the wrong place, making it bend the mounting screws when you use the trem. Just use the standard Fender import plate and add their steel or brass block, it's much better.
I have also found that there is a Fender solid steel block that fits the import 2 1/16" string spacing trem units, and I'm replacing the GFS with that one now. Not many people know about that one.

I have the GFS MIM bridge with steel block too on a Fender MIM body. I don't use the trem bar so no issue with the screws. The only thing I had issue with where the saddle adjustment screws. Too long and they stuck out too much to the point where they'd tear up my hand. Not comfortable at all. So, I got some Gotoh modern saddles from Mojotone and changed them out. Much better, IMO. I'd like to try the brass block though. I think this guitar would benefit from one.

Re: GFS brass trem block Import 10.5mm

I just put a bit of plumbers tape on the thread, It works a treat..

That's what I use! I have the PTFE plumber's tape and PTFE is the slipperiest substance in the world. I might have to check out if they have PTFE condoms for that extra edge.;):9: On my Gibson guitars, I wrap the plumber's tape around the threads of the stop-tailpiece bolts and the ABR-1 bridge posts. To me I find it makes quite a difference and it makes the coupling tighter for a more resonant sound. I just love plumber's tape...it's a guitarist's best friend. I'm not too crazy about plumber's crack though.;)

Better than a long ****ing hot day with a roasting hot pregnant woman and a 2 year old haha Good bye hair i will miss you.

Better then a pair of steel underpants

Better than the kid at school who had the sexy mum!

Now you guys got me thinking about Janet again.:smack: I wish Janet was my mommy...I'd make sure I was very naughty boy so I could be punished thoroughly!:10:

The jokes that are brewing in my mind - as a response - will surely get me banned from this forum 😊
