Gibson 2016 Traditional vs Standard.

Re: Gibson 2016 Traditional vs Standard.

do you think the dc resistance is important like 14k for the sh4 or just the millivolts ?

The burstbucker pro has just 8k maximum but they don't say it is for hard rock like the 498t

they just say it's for modern music so ?

the info in millivolts: info you can't always find for every pickups

DC resistance is an artifact of construction. It's indicative only. IME wire, magnets and winds contribute to altering the sound/frequency response, that's all. It does not imply suitability for a particular style of music, though some pickups may have been designed trying to address concerns of musicians of a particular style.

For example, I have a 1980's/1990's MJ wound 9k Pearly Gates bridge that is just as loud as my 16k production JB and Distortion I have. The JB is dark, the Pearly is bright and clear and the Distortion is so bright it's 'fizzy' under gain. They are interchangeable and can be used for multiple styles. The difference is how much I roll the tone off or not.

Re: Gibson 2016 Traditional vs Standard.

a pearly gates for heavy metal blues and a floyd rose would be better?

That is one way to do it. I think anything with 'blues' attached to it sounds better with less compressed, lower output pickups. A Floyd tends to thin the sound out a bit, so something more balanced like the Whole Lotta Humbucker set might be better for what I do.

Re: Gibson 2016 Traditional vs Standard.

but a lot of guitars only have a sh4 with a floyd rose and not really a PG

so ?

Re: Gibson 2016 Traditional vs Standard.

The SH4 is probably the most popular stock pickup that comes with many brands. I am not sure if the PG comes with many models out there. I think taking a pickup like the PG and distorting it a lot isn't quite what it is for, although it can work in a mid-heavy guitar. I'd opt for something between the vintage/modern camps, like the 59/Custom Hybrid, which doesn't sound compressed to me.
However the real issue is speculating on what pickups you want when you don't have the guitar yet. Get whatever guitar you are going to get, and live with the pickups for awhile. Then change them if you want a different sound- it is a better way to go about this process.

Re: Gibson 2016 Traditional vs Standard.

i think if you only play with the amp + guitar
and play loud : 2 sh1 or PG = ok

but if you play not so loud with the amp or

with pedals: PG /SH4

Re: Gibson 2016 Traditional vs Standard.

too many hesitations

the burstbuckers pro lead would be very trebly ?
not so good ?

and not really vintage for the neck pickup ?
