Gibson 2019 line-up

Re: Gibson 2019 line-up

I'll admit Gibson has a nice looking lineup this year, but have you seen Fenders new 2019 Alternate MIM and Boutique MIA lines?

Edit: EVH finally released a Sharky replica, too! This is going to be a good year.

I could bang on this Les Paul Junior Tribute DC all night. I love a no-frills guitar like this. At $900 it seems like one of the more reasonably priced axes.

Whether we totally agree with what Gibson offers or not I'm glad they survived as a company because it would be weird without them around whether you like them or not.

agree -as much as I want them to bring back the 1960 TV Special DC -which I consider to be Gibson's best solid body ever made -this Junior is an amazing guitar and 85% there towards a 1960 TV and for the right price -finally.

Re: Gibson 2019 line-up

I love the no-frills Juniors, I just wish they would use a two piece tune-o-matic for them.

Regarding the new Kramers, it has been confirmed that they are using Schaller tuners. That is a pretty big deal, because those are both what was used originally, and rather high-end, which suggests that they might not be going the "as cheaply as possible" route.

Re: Gibson 2019 line-up

Very excited to see a standard production Special with a wraparound tailpiece and the "step" at the neck joint! Too bad it's offered in TV Yellow only. Blech!

The Junior gets the "step" as well. Nice.

'61 SG with hardtail, Maestro Vibrola, or sideways vibrato – AMAZING! Always hated the fact that they called the '61 reissue a reissue, when it was nothing of the sort.

ABR-1 bridges on standard production line guitars. Aluminum tailpieces with steel studs, and Burstbucker 1's and 2's on '50's and '60's style Les Pauls. AWESOME!

The Gibson features and model lineup haven't looked this good in an extremely long time IMO. It's a good first step for the "new" Gibson. My only gripe is the limited color options, and the fact that you can't get the '50's or '60's Les Pauls as plain tops. I would find a way to get myself a Vintage Sunburst '50's model if it was available with plain maple.

Are they not making the Special in TV yellow anymore?
I have a 2015 Special (yes, the year everyone hates, lol) mine isn’t TV Yellow but it was a choice for that year at least.

Re: Gibson 2019 line-up

yep, the demand is huge for the old stuff, folks bend over backwoods for it, with a old car, you do it up, make it like new, with guitars the the opposite, worn on the outside, great on the inside, sky,s the limit.

No, I believe 2015 was the only year since the 90s they produced it.

Re: Gibson 2019 line-up

Epiphone is more liberal with TV finishes then Gibson has in recent years. I think it was 2012 they released every last one of their models in TV Pelham and a good number in TV Yellow.

Re: Gibson 2019 line-up

As far as the Kramer lineup theyre not even close to the original 83-90 era so I wouldnt be going into it expecting that.
Funny they have FRT1000’s across the board as opposed to an OFR...

The Swan is just a watered down version as well and it has little semblance of the real ones. I laughed when I saw that it was only avail in the dark Polka finish...
It also has dual JB’s as opposed to a Full Shred/JB, a FRT1000 as opposed to an Original Floyd, and an R2 nut instead of an R1 blah....and I bet they dont have Schaller tuners, but some no name tuner....
way to pay tribute.... hahahaha!

These all prob have a topmount nut and Id be willing to bet they arent a 3pc neck either like the ESP made Kramers of the 1986-1/2 to 1990 timeframe...

Also from what I gather they are made in Indonesia.
I’ll pass.
If you arent going to do something right then don’t even do it.

But as I said, Im glad Gibson survived themselves, now as far as what they are doing with the Kramer brand I cant condone that so much.
Same as what FMIC did with the Jackson and Charvel name.... these are top notch brand names so they deserve to be kept legit and not crap versions being mass produced...

Re: Gibson 2019 line-up

The Kramers do have Schaller tuners, I saw some pics from the booth in the Kramer Guitars FB group. Word has it that USA versions will be introduced at Summer NAMM. I'm not really interested in them myself.

As for Gibson's new offerings, I like what I see. Back to basics with some nice modern touches.

I don't expect these to be as good as the originals, but they might be nice replacements for greasy bar gigs.

Re: Gibson 2019 line-up

Im very surpised to see them trying to make another go at the Swan because last time it totally fell apart and theres alot of red tape we’ll say, so its entirely possible they wont make the cut or theyll be ceased from production.

Next thing we’ll see is someone getting sued over using the Polka Dots... lol (actually thats one of the things Im gonna be watching hahahaha)

Rumor is that all models will be available left handed as well....but even so...unless they do them correctly and give them the justice they deserve Ill continue buying the old ones because I know what Im getting.

As for what I see so far, they’re simply capitilizing off of people’s emotions which seems to be on par with most things that are “reissued”.

Topmounted nut as I suspected... surprised to see the 3pc neck more so than the Schallers, but that is cool theyre using those... The retainer screws arent in the same location though... I know, i know... but still, come on guys, if youre gonna do something, then do it right.

They couldve atleast used wood that matches for their necks... that looks awful.

Agreed Sirion, about the only thing I see good out of this is that you can use them for a beater, but I tend not to have stragglers and I play my main guitars all the time anyways..
Thanks for posting that pic to show the Schallers and that 3pc neck... maybe oily hands will seep into the wood and make it blend better. Haha.

Re: Gibson 2019 line-up

The top-mount nut is arguably an improvement, but never mind that. I think that particular model of the tuner is easier to find outside of Europe than the authentic ones, but I also wonder if they chose these to avoid people trying to pass off these as originals.

I'm not so much of a fanboi that I pre-ordered one, but it will be nice to see how these end up. The last Nightswan attempt was something of a debacle, but the old Jersey Star was well received, so I am a little more optimistic than you if they decide to bring their A game. Oh well, we'll see in time, won't we? :)

Re: Gibson 2019 line-up

I love Kramer as well as you and a good bit of others so believe me I wish they would do right by the name and make a good product but seems even the most trivial things are all adding up to make me more wary than hopeful at this point.

Like you said, in time we will tell and if theyre good quality thats cool, but already Ill be needing to swap the trem for a real one among other things so its kinda making it not a good purchase... least wise if a person wants to play it everyday and wants it to be a solid guitar...

Can you confirm if these are made in Indonesia? Thats what I heard, but Im kinda bingeing on all of this because I dont follow them and its all coming at me at once.

Re: Gibson 2019 line-up

Their deviation from stock components can be lazily written off under the guise of them not being confused with the originals, which anyone familiar will be able to tell that right away...

I see the serial number is stamped into the headstock as opposed to being on the neck plate so theres yet another thing different than stock.

I wonder if they chose to stamp the SN as an attempt to stop people from passing off mitts as something it’s not?
Just spitballing here....

You know way more than I do about the Kramer history but I’d also like to see a more “true to form” recreation of what their legacy was all about.

I’d also like to see a Pacer in the lineup. (I don’t recall seeing one...I could be wrong and I’m too lazy to go back and look. Lol)

I am waiting for an answer for that myself, I'm afraid.
