They are all kinda gritty, and that's a take it or leave it thing, I can see that. It comes from the alloy they use for the poles and screws


Yeah, that's an unusual quality of a few Gibson PU's. I think it works best with a 500T, gives it more character than a typical ceramic.

I am a fan of the gritty quality the Gibbo pups have, but instead of changing the 490r, I put an A2 in my 498. They sound great-smooth and still powerful-in my Czech Dean Caddy, but it's also a fairly bright guitar.

I haven't tried a 498T with an A2, but I tried an A2 in a 498/490T hybrid I made and that was cool for R&R stuff in an SG.

I ended up with 500T mags in that same pickup though.
