Gibson Bankruptcy and liquidation

Re: Gibson Bankruptcy and liquidation

I don't believe that they will have a lot of stock at the factory to blow out. You may see dealers that feel freed up to ignore pricing mandates from Gibson and advertise lower prices, but I don't think dealers will be blowing out their stock below cost.

Re: Gibson Bankruptcy and liquidation

Even if Gibson declared bankruptcy it is only a financial reorganization. There will be no change on the retail end. Everything will be business as usual

Re: Gibson Bankruptcy and liquidation

If Gibson does head to a bankruptcy will there be a liquidation sale on all of their Guitars and products?

Please do a search for other threads on this topic before spreading your hysterical spooge here.

Re: Gibson Bankruptcy and liquidation

It is likely that if Gibson goes bankrupt that their guitars will not only continue to be available, but will also have more consistent product and qc, and probably at lower prices. The name is far too recognized and valuable to be allowed to disappear. No creditor would ever allow that. For creditors to recoup their money, they need to ensure that all available value is realized from the assets. The Gibson name is their biggest asset. Creditors know this.

Upper management may go, there may be new owners, but Gibson guitars will continue to be made and sold. I think personally that bankruptcy may actually save the brand.

The new owners could also end up being opportunists that put the Gibson name on $99 imports and totally tank the QC.

Re: Gibson Bankruptcy and liquidation

I hope Fender buys Gibson and treats it like Gretsch, Charvel, etc. Or maybe one of the companies that Gibson sued for making Les Paul copies, like Tokai, Edwards/ ESP or PRS.

If you actually paid attention to the industry news, or read the other threads about this on this forum - you'd know that Fender is leveraged to the hilt, too. They can't afford to be buying another huge company.

Or maybe one of the companies that Gibson sued for making Les Paul copies, like Tokai, Edwards/ ESP or PRS.

Gibson has EVERY legal right to sue for copyright infringement under the law. Their designs deserve protection from companies that basically stole Gibson's hard work. Gibson didn't sue for money - they simply wanted these other companies to develop their own designs (which they should have done in the first place, but were too lazy or crooked to do). Gibson didn't sue just to be mean....

Or like Hamer. :raincloud

I look at this situation a lot like what Harley-Davidson is going through currently: a changing perspective on guitars, a new generation that doesn't care about nostalgia, a consumer that wants quality for less and is finding it overseas. Some companies stuck their heads in the sand and cashed in on their tried-and-trued for too long and unfortunately, are paying for it. PRS exists because Gibson left an opening on high-end, high-quality, highly-consistent, high-priced guitars that Gibson couldn't produce.

Based on Gibson's pricing over the past years I think it is safe to say Henry wouldn't give you a free handfull of sand at the beach.

Re: Gibson Bankruptcy and liquidation

I couldn't care less about Gibson as far as my own playing/collecting goes,,,,,but I wish them well because they're such a classic old made-in-USA brand.

Same goes for Carvin/Kiesel,,,,,,,,,although that whole thing about Carvin USA shutting down, and then now it seems it was just a way to clear old gear out,,,,,,,,well I'l just say it came-off as a bit dishonest IMO.

Wait, Carvin is making amps again?

They are focusing on pedals, but it looks like they are not making them in California and may start selling them through retailers rather than direct. I doubt we’ll see any more amps, they are just clearing out their leftover stock while they restructure their debts and business model.

I would get a Carvin V3 pedal.
