Gibson Corvus

[Indie P Bass]

Out of curiousity, mostly, I was wondering what you all thought of those old Gibson Corvuses and how much you would expect to pay for one of those beasts. Every once in a while I get a hankerin' to get one and scour E-bay and all the used instrument sites I can find and find prices ranging from $400 to $1000 and have no idea what to expect to pay for one of these.

Only seen them in books.
They look downright ugly, I wouldn't want to be seen dead in a 10 kilometer radius of one.

They're funky little guitars. They have a very unique look to them, you know? It's the type of guitar that when you play a show with it everyone in the audience remembers.

1982 - 1984 : $400 TO $475 ( Corvus I )
1982 - 1984 : $475 to $575 ( Corvus II )
1982 - 1984 : $550 to $650 ( Corvus III )

Avg Upward Trend of 7% a year since 2000

If they are increasing in value 7% year for the last 8 years.... .07(80)=.056.....

Add 56% to those prices???

Man, memories arent always a good thing : " you remember that guy with the ugly guitar, well..."

I'm all for guitars with unique shapes and vibe, but man, that one really gets to me, and that doesnt happen often.

If you can rock it though, why not I guess....

Most of you are too young to remember when the Corvus came out.

I remember the Circus magazine ad for them. It was a guy with a mullet, sleeveless Tshirt, and terrycloth headband and wristbands. The ad made it look even more uncool than it already was! ROFL

It would be more like 1.07^8 = 1.72, which is 72% more than those prices. Highlighting an important point: its too much to pay for an ugly guitar.

My thoughts on used instruments is that NO used guitar is worth more than $500. Anything that you pay above that price you pay because you want the piece. I never thought the Corvus was an attractive nor useful body style, but it's never been my call. If you find one for less than that price and you want one, buy it.

The odd little goofballs are way too ugly for me, but the one I tried at a local shop actually played pretty darn good. It kinda surprised me.

No, that should be .07 * 8 = .56 which is 56% .056 is 5.6%

No it shouldn't... after the first year the price is 1.07 times the original, after the second its 1.07 times the price after the first year which would be 1.07^2 and so on. After 8 years its 1.07^8. :nana:

Call me crazy, but I kinda like that thing. There's something cool to me about the Gibson "dogs" - even the weird bolt-ons. I used to have a Marauder - I wish I never sold it. A buddy of mine used to have a Challenger too - it was kind of a piece of junk but it sounded pretty good.

I'm the same way. There is something that is pretty cool about it - as crazy as it looks. The Marauder was a pretty sweet looking guitar too! It's kinda cool seeing Gibson models that never really took off.

the world has too many sweet yet unloved SG's, Telecasters, flying V's and Les Pauls to waste your time on those other things. i mean c'mon show some class.

Before I heard of the Marauder I thought it would be great to have a guitar with a flat top LP body and a flying V headstock with some cool pickup and switching options... If it weren't for the bad reputation Marauders seems to have for poorly fit neck pockets I would be more interested in that for sure. However the Marauder and the Corvus to me are very different ideas, as I can't see how the Corvus even resembles a guitar.
