Gibson CS-356

Anyone play a CS-356? Thinking of trading/selling some things to get one. I would be aiming for a mid 2000's model to get the ebony fretboard.

Thoughts?

Re: Gibson CS-356

FYI - laminate is not a bad thing on a semi-hollow body. laminate helps defeat feedback.

FYI I own a '07 ES-335 fatneck and it's one of my favorite guitars, so I may be a bit biased...

I've played a few CS-356s and 336s, but it's been a while. They sound closer much closer to a hollow LP (Florentine or similar) than to a full size 335, and tend to be slightly neck-heavy as well. Overall I found them to be nice guitars, but not really worth the markup compared to a USA 335.

If money were no object, I would own at least one of those in a heartbeat. I love love love it.

Re: Gibson CS-356

In the great tradition of guitar websites, I'm going to talk about a completely different guitar than you started the thread about!:9:

The Gibson Midtowns are a similar construction (they are solid maple tops with chambered mahogany bodies with f-holes) but don't have the arched top. You can get them used for about a grand.

Might be a cheaper way to go for a similar guitar. The standards have a rosewood board, and the customs are richilite, which is pretty close to ebony in look and feel.
