Gibson Custom shop

Re: Gibson Custom shop

a custom les paul BFG of sorts... mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard. nice flame maple top with the rootbeer finish. humbucker bridge (probably zebra) with a black p90 in the middle position (instead of neck). same BFG control set up (i think it was 2 tones, 1 volumes, 3 way switch, and a killswitch?). white binding on the body and neck/headstock. most important part for me would be a rib contour too  i'm a skinny bastard and a normal les paul really digs into my ribs! makes playing for too long really uncomfortable

ahh plan old rockin gas right there!

Re: Gibson Custom shop

Well, I cut my teeth on SGs, so I'd probably go with an SG, but I'd want it as thick as a normal Les Paul, mahogany body, maple neck, ebony fretboard, dunlop 6100s, either black, white or silverburst finish, SD '59 in front and JB in the back, coil splitting options.

Why would you want a maple neck? plan sg's not bright enough for you? ;)

Re: Gibson Custom shop

I'd have a pretty interesting true custom shop guitar made up:

body: Gibson ES-335 shaped/constructed
finish: black beauty w/ gold flake trim (think Gretsch Black Falcon)
neck: 25'' scale (PRS wide/fat specs), Explorer style headstock - mahogany neck, dark braz. rosewood fretboard, block inlays
hardware: PRS wraparound bridge, Steinberger tuners
pickups: (2) Gibson custom shop Firebird
electronics: (2) black speed knobs - (1) master volume and (1) master tone, 3-way switch

That'd be the culmination of all the things that I love right there.

Re: Gibson Custom shop

A lefty clone of Lifeson's EDS-1275.

Re: Gibson Custom shop

A few of the students at McNally Smith have custom shop Gibsons. Despite being customs, the still suffer from terrible quality control. The three I've played on were "Meh." at best.

So I would get whatever sells for the most. Then I would get a couple good ones made by someone else.

Re: Gibson Custom shop

You can always give heritage guitars a chance if you are interested in a custom LP. Price will be half and the quality will be same if not better.

Heritage is fine in the real world, but we're dreaming about custom guitars that will never exist. I say, screw the pooch and go balls-out. Give those boys in Nashville a blank check to build a no-holds-barred panty-dropper:

Here's your template.

Yup. Circa 1960 Gibson ES-345 with Bigsby, cherry red, made with the same techniques and materials as the originals, shiny and new like when they hit the stores half a century ago. Nothing in it that wouldn't have been in an ES-345 when Jack Kennedy was still alive. Time machine guitar. Comes with a free DeLorean.

good choice:)

Re: Gibson Custom shop

Primarily, because I like the rigidity of maple. And secondly, because the mahogany body would need something to help clarify the tone, the fact that I'd want it thicker than a normal SG would necessitate this as well.

Re: Gibson Custom shop

a super jumbo acoustic, with lots of little ornaments.

you can only improve on perfection so much. ;)

Re: Gibson Custom shop

Probably a J-45 (maybe with an extra deep body).

If we are just talking about electric guitars, then I would probably choose a firebird V (shocking!)

scratch some of my original post, and apply all of the features i mentioned to this guitar.*drool*

Re: Gibson Custom shop

I heard that Gibson doesn't do Custom Orders anymore. Having said that, I understand its only available to pros these days.
