Gibson Dirty Finger Prototype using T-Top Parts?

I have a very interesting find. I have what is a T Top double white humbucker that has the Pat # 2,737,842 engraved on the brass plate. It has a date over it of Mar 6, 1980. Here is where it gets strange. It has double row with 12 screw pole pieces that with both rows going through the back. Unlike a T Top, the ohms measure in the 14k range. Is it possible that this is a Dirty Finger prototype that used old T Top Parts? I would be happy To share pictures.

Re: Gibson Dirty Finger Prototype using T-Top Parts?

I have never seen such a thing.. Pretty cool! Maybe it was a custom wind using parts, someone may have rewound it.
What magnet is in it? I would like to know if it's ceramic or alnico? That would help some..
As of now, I'd say its a rewound T Top..
Whats also interesting is its squarely in the beginning of the Tim Shaw era. PAT # 2 737 842 on the baseplate signifies that it's a Tim Shaw pickup..

I'll give ya $10 and pay for the shipping..:werd:

Tim Shaw did do the original Dirty Fingers but they didn't have T Top bobbins..
This is pretty cool! I'd honestly ask some of the guys over at the Gibson or MLP forum, they may be of more help.
I don't know a lot about these and have never seen a 14k T Top before..

would not be a ttop with a dcr 6k over what a ttop should measure

Re: Gibson Dirty Finger Prototype using T-Top Parts?

My '79 GK-55 had double cream Dirty Fingers with T-top bobbins, but mine had two shielded leads coming out of them, for a spin-a-split. They are out there...

Yeah I've seen plenty T-Top Dirty Fingers in the wild.
